4 Must-Visit Hot Spots in Xinjiang | Ctrip Community Exclusive Guide ✨ Xinjiang, this magical land that occupies one-sixth of China's territory, is a place where snow-capped mountains, lakes, grasslands, deserts, and ancient cities converge! Don't miss these 4 hot spots 🙋♂️, covering natural wonders and cultural heritage. Save this guide to easily unlock countless ways to experience Xinjiang! 1. Kanas Lake 🌊 The Pearl of Northern Xinjiang, God's Palette Kanas Lake is famous as the "Changing Color Lake," where the water changes colors with the light, displaying shades of blue, green, and gray, like a fairyland. The core highlights are the Tuva villages, the primeval forests, and the vibrant autumn colors—from late September to early October, the birch forests turn golden like an oil painting, and the morning mist creates a fairytale-like atmosphere. You can hike through the three bays (Fairy Bay, Moon Bay, and Crouching Dragon Bay) or climb the Fish Viewing Platform to overlook the entire lake. We recommend staying in Hemu Village or Kanas Village to experience the tranquility of the mornings and the romance under the stars 🌌. Tickets: 160 RMB/person in peak season, shuttle bus 70 RMB/person (advance booking required) Best time to visit: June-August for summer retreat, mid-to-late September for the best autumn scenery Tips: Large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains, bring a down jacket; horseback riding requires negotiation (approximately 100 RMB/hour). 2. Sayram Lake 🌊 The Last Tear of the Atlantic Ocean Sayram Lake is the highest alpine lake in Xinjiang, with crystal-clear water surrounded by snow-capped mountains and grasslands. Key highlights include a self-driving tour around the lake, swans enjoying the water, and stargazing camping. You can enjoy panoramic views of the lake from the Dianjiangtai (General's Platform), interact with swans at the waterfront, and witness the spectacular underground springs at Keleyongzhu. During autumn and winter (October 16th - March 15th), tickets are half price at only 35 yuan, and a self-driving package is 110 yuan for 48 hours of unlimited access. Fewer crowds, beautiful scenery, and better photos! Tickets: Off-season 35 yuan/person, self-driving package 110 yuan/person (including service fee) Best time: June-July when wildflowers are in bloom; November-March of the following year for the blue ice spectacle. Tips: It's windy by the lake, so be prepared for the wind and keep warm; there are few restaurants inside the scenic area, so it's recommended to bring your own food. 3. Duku Highway 🚗 China's most beautiful highway, experiencing all four seasons in one day. The Duku Highway runs through the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, with a total length of 561 kilometers. It passes through snow-capped mountains, canyons, grasslands, and deserts, allowing you to experience the extreme temperature difference "from glaciers to flames" in a single day. Key highlights include the Hashilegen Tunnel, Bayinbuluke Grassland, and the Kuqa Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon. It's recommended to start from Dushanzi. The northern section (Dushanzi-Nalati) is rugged and magnificent, while the southern section (Nalati-Kuqa) is beautiful and open. During the open season from June to October, remember to check road conditions in advance and avoid landslide-prone areas⚠️. Opening Time: June-October annually (subject to official announcements) Best Time: July-August (grassland flower sea), September (autumn scenery picturesque) Tips: Signal is weak in mountainous areas; download offline maps in advance. SUVs are required for self-driving; vehicles with more than 7 seats are prohibited. 4. Kashgar Old City 🏯 A Living Specimen of an Ancient Western Region City Kashgar Old City is an epitome of Xinjiang's history and culture. This 2100-year-old Silk Road town retains its complete Uyghur traditional features. Key highlights include the Id Kah Mosque, the Gaotai residential buildings, and the artisan bazaar. You can experience the melodious Twelve Muqam at the opening ceremony, take stunning photos in the blue and white of Rainbow Lane, and savor local delicacies like roasted buns and braised pork at the Khan Bazaar night market. Don't forget to visit the Hat Bazaar and the Ironworks Commune to experience the charm of handcrafted copperware and floral hats 🎩. Entrance Fee: Free (some attractions charge separately) Best Time to Visit: April-June, September-October (weather is favorable) Tips: The old city's alleyways are complex; remember, "hexagonal bricks indicate passageways, rectangular bricks indicate dead ends"; women must cover their hair with a headscarf when entering mosques. Travel Tips 📝 1. Transportation: Xinjiang is vast, and attractions are far apart. It is recommended to hire a car or join a tour (8-10 days for the Northern Xinjiang loop, 7-9 days for the Southern Xinjiang loop). Border permits are required for the Duku Highway and Pamir Plateau (available free of charge at the Kashgar Administrative Service Center). 2. Safety: Obey景区 regulations; smoking is prohibited. When driving, be aware of fatigue and do not drive continuously for more than 4 hours. 3. Food: Must-try dishes include roasted lamb skewers, braised chicken with potatoes, hand-pulled rice, and yogurt-filled rice dumplings. Recommended restaurants include established establishments like "Ailizhati Pilaf Restaurant" and "Aizimaiti Baked Bun Shop." 4. Gear: Sunscreen (SPF50+), sunglasses, and moisturizing skincare products are essential. In the mountainous areas of northern Xinjiang, a windproof jacket is necessary; in southern Xinjiang during summer, lightweight and breathable clothing is required. 5. Culture: Respect local customs. Obtain permission before entering villages and politely ask permission before photographing people. The beauty of Xinjiang needs to be measured by your footsteps and recorded by your eyes. Follow this guide to easily visit Xinjiang's essential attractions. Have a wonderful time in this magical land! 🎉 Would you like me to provide detailed itineraries for each attraction or expand your Xinjiang food list?
I went out at 8:30 PM, hoping to learn Tibetan dance from a Tibetan girl, but I realized my ambitions were too high and my skills too clumsy—I couldn't do it. The night view of this square in Medog is truly beautiful. The lights, the scenery, the lotus pond, the plants… paired with the distant mountains and white clouds, it's absolutely gorgeous. The square also has restaurants, folk stalls, snacks, fruits, tea ceremonies… Today I ate Rongchang braised goose and Zhang Ge's braised dishes, both were very good. I'll try a different place tomorrow. Oh, and there's a Xinjiang restaurant. I'll bake some buns tomorrow. 😆 What I liked most about this square was the China National Geographic Medog Nature Station, which had excellent educational content about local cats and butterflies. A highlight, thumbs up! 👍 There were also cultural and tourism activities today, but unfortunately I didn't get to participate. Just a quick travelogue. Tired from playing.
