Siyi Gaotuan Shop

Came on January 11, 2025. Dad likes to eat cake dumplings. When I learned that there is also a time-honored store in Nantong that is famous for cake dumplings, I naturally made a special trip to buy some cakes to take back as souvenirs. This store is located on South Street outside the Jiangshan Gate site of the old Tongzhou City. The antique gatehouse is very recognizable. The store is not big. The cake counter is facing the door and there are many varieties. I bought some sweet-scented osmanthus cakes and other varieties to take home. I heard they are quite delicious, similar to the ones we have at Shen Dacheng in Shanghai. In addition to cake dumplings, this store actually also sells Chinese snacks such as noodles, fried rice, and wontons. The business is even better than cake dumplings, which is quite surprising.

The century-old famous cake shop is located under the long bridge of Nan Street, Nantong Business Center, in the Haohe Scenic Area. It has a long history and is very popular. Although it is called a cake shop, it actually has a wide variety of food. There are a variety of wontons, noodles, porridge, cold dishes, etc. There is a lot of room for selection. The environment is hygienic and you can eat with confidence. The taste is good and the service is thoughtful. In particular, the restaurant on the second floor is antique, quiet and comfortable. You can taste Nantong food by the window and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Haohe River leisurely. This is the best place for tourists to dine. After the meal, you can go downstairs to stroll around the prosperous South Street or walk to the Haohe River on the left. Both are very leisurely and comfortable choices. Transportation: Bus No. 4 goes directly there.

A century-old shop on South Street. If you come to Nantong, you should go and try the taste of this old shop. The business is super hot. You have to wait for more than half an hour to eat rice topped with toppings and dumplings in the lunch hall. The pastries are the signature and they are really delicious.

1. This is my second review of Siyi Cake Shop. I went back to the shop after over six months and noticed that the quality of some of their snacks hadn't changed, but the prices had. 2. Siyi's duck blood vermicelli soup, a relatively unique dim sum dish, was priced at 9 yuan a bowl last year. According to the new price list, it's now 10 yuan, an increase of over 11%. 3. Additionally, the special chicken wontons and special pork wontons have both increased from 9 yuan to 10 yuan. I had the special chicken wontons last year and the special pork wontons this year. They were, in essence, just ordinary little pork wontons, and the taste was truly mediocre. I also had their shredded radish buns, 4 yuan each. The buns were quite unique—the combination of shredded radish, minced meat, and dried shrimp gave them a strong seafood flavor. It was quite good, and worth a try if you haven't tried it before. 4. The price of beef vermicelli soup has increased by 2 yuan, from 12 yuan to 14 yuan per bowl. This 20% increase far exceeds the national CPI index. Also, the price of pumpkin porridge has increased by 1 yuan per bowl. The red date and wolfberry porridge has been changed to red date porridge, and the price remains unchanged. 5. The prices of Siyi's cakes are obviously a bit high. This is my impression when comparing them with similar products in Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Jiaxing. 6. The shepherd's purse dumplings are a new product that was advertised on the wall of the store this year. Seeing a dumpling costing 6 yuan, I felt a little disappointed, so I didn't try it. 7. This shop is probably a well-known local snack shop. As a sticky rice lover, I won't miss any unique cake shop. But in addition to cakes and dumplings, they also have a variety of snacks and rice dishes. I recommend the Qingtuan and Tiaotougao. The Qingtuan has a minty flavor and a very refreshing taste, a little different from the usual ones, and the color is also lighter.

1. Siyi Cake Shop, located at No. 99-6, South Street, Chongchuan District, Nantong City, is a time-honored Nantong brand and a recipient of the "China Time-honored Brand" designation. 2. Siyi Cake Shop is famous for its "Osmanthus Cake," which won the Nantong City's "Signature Dish" award in the 2014 Jiangsu Province "Signature Dish" competition. 3. Osmanthus Cake is 6 yuan per piece, while Pine Nut Cake, Minced Fruit Cake, Peach Kernel Cake, Melon Kernel Cake, and Assorted Cake are all 8 yuan each. In terms of price, these are significantly higher than the average price of 5 yuan at Huang Tianyuan Cakes in Suzhou, making them a bit pricey. 4. At Siyi Cake Shop, another popular soup dessert is "Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup," priced at 9 yuan per bowl. The taste is quite good and is said to rival Nanjing's Huiwei Duck Blood Vermicelli. 5.
