Leaving home young and returning as old, their accents unaltered, their hair graying. These overseas Chinese, who have been away from their homes for decades, still speak fluent Minnan dialect. Take a ferry from the pier to Gulangyu Island, a World Heritage Site, and become the guest of Huang Yizhu, the Indonesian Sugar King and the richest man of the Republic of China. Stay in his Huang Family Garden on Gulangyu Island, where lush greenery and blooming flowers abound, from pomegranates blooming in a corner to century-old banyan trees. Everywhere you look, you'll see the ideal home of this wealthy returned overseas Chinese businessman. Ancient Roman columns, a blend of Eastern and Western decorations, intricately carved window grilles, and ingenious, practical design all contribute to the centuries-old villas looking effortlessly dated. Huang Yizhu, a barber by trade, built a fortune in a foreign land through his ingenuity and skill, bringing his wealth back home and acquiring over 100 villas in Xiamen. His favorite, Huang Family Garden, was the largest villa in China at the time, and has been home to celebrities like Richard Nixon and Lee Kuan Yew. I stayed in a Deluxe Ocean View King Room in the South Building. The 2.4-meter king-size bed was incredibly comfortable. From the window, I could see the captivating seascape of Gulangyu Island. Every snap was a Instagram-worthy photo. I could relax on the sofa and read a book. The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary drinks. The room was spacious, the bathroom was simple, stylish, practical, and convenient, and the light was abundant. Staying here was a chance to truly experience a wonderful vacation. As night fell, the tranquility of Huang Family Garden was even more apparent as I walked through the bustling shopping streets. Wake up to the chirping of insects and birds, enjoy a nutritious set breakfast in the restaurant, and lunch at Old Xiamen Seafood Restaurant, just 100 meters away. Both the seafood and local Xiamen dishes are delicious! Gulangyu is a small island full of surprises, and I'm lucky to be able to visit often! #SpringPlaySomeFlowers #SpringDayFlowerViewingIllustration #High-endHotelsYou'll UnderstandAfterSleeping #HotelStayAddiction #MonthlySpecialPlan
Don't go to the commercial street that's a rip-off when you go to Gulangyu. Come to Old Xiamen Seafood Restaurant for less than 80 yuan per person, and there are also Tongan fried crabs made fresh on the table #XiamenSeafood #GulangyuFood #TonganFriedCrab
