A coastal lifestyle cafe with nice and cozy environment along the straits of Johor

No. 16 of Must-Visit Restaurants in Johor Bahru

I just attended a very romantic and intimate wedding at Rowan and Parsley in Johor Bahru. It is a garden 🪴 cafe in the day and is opened for events and wedding functions. It seems to be a popular wedding venue for its photogenic interior and exterior. Location is not so mainstream but it’s totally worth a trip to check it out. The set up was totally different from the tradition Chinese wedding. It’s so lovely to be surrounded by luscious greens. Lots of effort was put into the decoration and the space is perfect for a small wedding. It gives a rustic and industrial vibes. Good wise was okay as it’s a pre-selected meal by the couples. The appetiser - avocado 🥑 with prawn was good. Have to give the dessert - apple crumble with ice cream a big shoutout as it served as a really nice end to the meal. The atmosphere was very romantic and pleasant. There’s also an outdoor area where couples can hold their ceremony. Would totally go back to check it out during the day again!

The waffles were pretty good. Crispy outside, soft inside, and the biscoff sauce was a nice touch.

The crispy oat chicken chop was the star for me. The coating was super crunchy and the chicken inside stayed really juicy. Portion was decent for the price.

Stopped by for lunch, got the salmon teriyaki. It’s pretty good, the fish was cooked just right. A bit on the pricier side for what you get, but it’s a decent option if you’re in the area.

The garlic steamed lobster was a standout, and paired nicely with a crisp white wine. The grilled lamb was also very good.

Been coming here for years, and the wine list is still the main draw for me. They always have a few interesting local options that change with the season. It's my go-to for a relaxed glass after work. The place can get a bit loud on weekends, but that's part of the vibe.

Service was prompt and attentive. Staff took time to explain the menu and sauces clearly. They proactively offered gloves, which was a thoughtful touch. Efficient and hassle-free.

The owner's English is really good, easy to chat with. Makes the place feel more welcoming.

This restaurant offers fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Their signature dish is lobster sashimi and you have to place advance reservation in order to enjoy the dish. Location is a bit out of the way but it's definitely worth a trip there.

Stumbled upon this quiet spot in Desaru. Has that Bali beach club feel. Ordered the grilled red snapper - skin was crispy, fish was fresh and juicy. Just what I needed after a long drive.

The AC is a bit too strong inside, but the food comes out fast.

Breakfast buffet is a treat. The spread is huge, Western to Thai and Chinese. Quality is consistently good. Staff are attentive and efficient, even when it's busy. My only note: some hot items could be a touch warmer. Still, a solid start to the day.

Bryan was so nice about my friend’s peanut allergy! He made a fresh rojak just for her, no fuss at all. Made our girls’ catch-up feel relaxed and easy.

Satay was fresh and tender, peanut sauce on point. Good casual spot by the beach. Service was a bit slow during lunch hour, but food quality made up for it. Would stop by again.

Their homemade pista kulfi. Creamy, not overly sweet. The pistachio flavor is just right. Way better than the usual ones you find around. That's the only thing I remember from the whole meal.
