TheForkUserYears ago, I had surgery in the hospital around the corner, where the food was excellent. Then I got discharged and stayed with the sisters next door to the hospital for two weeks of recovery. The sisters fed us breakfast, but for other meals we had to fend for ourselves, and that is how we discovered Il Focolare. For two weeks we ate there every day - except when they were closed. That was ten years ago... We have been coming back every time we have been anywhere near to Rome. Need I say more? Everything is just perfect, and not a tourist in sight.

Il Focolare is a wonderful restaurant in the heart of Monteverde. The welcoming, friendly staff and excellent food, never disappoint. ???? And the prices won't hurt your pocketbook. Enjoy!
We stayed on the same street and every taxi recommended this restaurant. The food was excellent with a nice family feel, the pride is genuine. The food was lovely and portions were a good size. The host made their special recipe for rare traditional dessert which was very good. We were indoors and although there was AC, it got a little warm towards the end of our sitting otherwise I would rate a 5. Seated 8 persons with 3 kids and they were happy to have us and helped them feel comfortable. Lovely place we would be happy to visit again.
This is a classic Roman neighborhood restaurant in Gianicolo that sits at the top of Monte Verde, overlooking Trastevere. You won't see tourists here. We're American and lived in this neighborhood for several months. The food here is some of the best we've ever eaten in Italy - expertly prepared and beautifully presented. You need to make reservations on weekends - it's very popular.
Fantastic restaurant with wonderful staff who are eager to help and recommend the best dishes. Friendly, neighborhood restaurant, very popular with locals . Excellent pizza but they also excel with the frittura, primi, and secondi (I had the steak and it was perfect). The zabaglione is made at the table by the waiter. We didn’t have it but will - when we return in two days!
