Cozy little place, part cafe part souvenir shop. The matcha latte was nice, but I was really drawn to the high-grade matcha they had on display. The powder looked so vibrant, almost velvety. Felt like a quiet find.

I always go for an early lunch. The lunch set is a good deal, and I really appreciate the unlimited refills of soup. The miso soup tastes fresh, not too salty. It’s a simple, healthy start to the day.

Solid single-origin selection. Had the Kenya medium roast via French press. Clean, fruity notes. Good for a slow morning.

Had the whole place to ourselves on a quiet Tuesday night. The staff were really sweet—they even offered to take a few photos for us when they saw us trying to set up a phone. Made the evening feel a bit more special.

Convenient spot by JR Uji Station. Loved the interior garden view, so peaceful. I really appreciated how fresh the vegetables tasted in my set meal. You could tell they were local and just prepared. A nice, healthy lunch spot.

Nice, upscale vibe but still relaxing. The wood and tatami interior is quite elaborate. Food was pretty good.

The space is really cozy and warm, perfect for a quiet drink. We had some sake and a few small plates. Just a heads up, there aren't many seats, so maybe avoid peak times.

This was my first time ordering via QR code, and the site actually had a translation guide. The sashimi platter was so fresh, the fish just melted. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality.

The bar has this really warm, amber glow. I just sat there with my friends, slowly sipping my drink and watching the ice melt. Felt like time slowed down for a bit.

Convenient spot right on the main road, easy to find. It does get packed with both tourists and locals, but the service still runs smoothly. Portions are surprisingly generous for a cafe, which is nice.

The service here is pretty good, very attentive. We had the zunda mochi, which was quite nice. The tea was authentic, a decent spot for a quiet break.

Ordering from the tablet was easy, and the English menu option was helpful. The conveyor belt is a nice touch. The booths are comfortable and spaced well, so it never feels crowded. A relaxed spot for a solo lunch.

This ramen shop has a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. The homemade noodles are fantastic, and the chashu is incredibly tender. A great spot for ramen lovers!

Selected for Light Bites in Nara City

The cold soba with grated yam was a refreshing choice. The pickles were a nice touch.

The croissant was the standout. Flaky, buttery layers that shattered perfectly. Not too sweet, just a pure, simple pastry done right. The banana bread was moist and had real banana flavor, not just sugar. Both were fresh.

The semi-private room was nice for a quiet dinner. It felt cozy and the staff was very attentive. I did notice it gets a bit loud when bigger parties arrive, but it wasn't too distracting. A comfortable spot for a relaxed meal.

Stopped by this old machiya for a beer. Their own brews are the highlight—tried a couple and they were solid. The guest taps were okay, but I'd stick with the house ones. Nice, cozy spot to unwind.

The set meal's rice was perfectly cooked, but the star was the dipping sauces. There were three, each with a distinct flavor profile. One was a savory miso-based, another had a citrusy kick, and the last was a simple, clean soy. Made the cabbage and everything else way more interesting.

Stopped in for a late lunch, around 3. Place was nice and quiet. Got the tiramisu. The coffee flavor was strong, just how I like it. Not too sweet either. A solid choice.

Upstairs seating is the best. So bright and spacious. Just sat there for hours with a book and a latte. Really chill spot.

Found this spot near Fushimi Inari. Menu's all in Japanese, but the staff were really patient—used their phones to translate everything for us. Went for the course meal. Food was solid. Nice, authentic vibe.

The matcha latte was pretty good. It went nicely with the relaxed, shoes-off seating area.

The jumbo fried shrimp here is my go-to for a quick lunch. Perfectly crispy, not greasy at all. Just a simple, satisfying bite with a view of the highway. Gets me back to work fast.
