🚶🏻♀️Hiking
Jinja is the second largest city in Uganda. It came into people's sight in 1870 when it was discovered by British explorer Speke as the source of the Nile River. It was originally just a small fishing village on a long-distance trade route. British settlers established a city here in 1901. In 1948, German architect and urban planner Ernst May planned under colonial rule, and many places outside the central city built manors for the ruling elite.
To this day, Main St is lined with colonial buildings from nearly a hundred years ago. The colors, structures, and styles are very beautiful, like a messy European town.
🔅Jinja's safety factor is much better than Kampala. There are few people and small streets, so it's no problem to hike alone.
It's only 1,000 meters from the bustling Songyang Old Street to the suburbs. I was shocked at the time. Jinja shortened this distance to 100 meters.
From the main road, it's the countryside in a blink of an eye, a dirt road, and few people. Birds like pelicans and bald storks fly in the sky, as stunning as Archaeopteryx.
1,160 meters above sea level, not that hot.
✅Must-visit places:
MAKERERE UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL Jinja Cumpass: A blue and white building, on the north side of the small road on the west side of the main road. From kindergarten to university, they are all concentrated in one campus. The university is pink, the classrooms are very shabby, and the evening is beautiful.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: A small courtyard with a pointed roof
Our Lady Of Fatima Parish Church: The church in the village is very beautiful, opposite the playground. There is also a boy's dormitory next to it.
SDM MANDIR (Temple) Jinja: Red Hindu Temple
Khoja Mosque: Mosque
🚫Not recommended:
Jinja Central Market, too messy, not good looking
Ripon Falls Market, looks like a slum
👅Food and Beverage
Jinja Sailing Club: A beautiful restaurant by Lake Victoria
The Office: A very nice bar, opposite the Hindu Temple
Source Cafe: A beautiful old building cafe on the east side of the main road, built around 1924, closed on Sundays
Salt and Pepper: Although it is a restaurant run by an Indian owner and chef, serving Asian food, with a lot of Chinese food, it tastes good. Salt and pepper chicken is delicious, and the portion is especially large. Singapore noodles are also delicious.
