The location is fantastic, on a very pretty street in central London. We tried their tasting menu, which was a fantastic meal both in terms of presentation and taste, and had a wonderful time at Jamavar. The only downside was the service, which felt a bit disorganized at times.
We were warmly welcomed when we arrived, coats taken and sat at our pleasantly dressed table. We ordered a couple of cocktails, which were promptly brought out, were well made and tasty. As we were there for lunch we decided to have the lunch menu, I ordered for both of us which seemed to confuse the waiter, but we thought it'd be ok..The starters were the star of the show, the pork dish was very tasty and the prawn starter had a good spicy kick to it.The 2nd courses was smaller than the first but were also well cooked and presented. We had the stone bass and chicken tikka, which we enjoyed. The mains were a bit more substantial, we ordered the butter chicken and goat dish, however, the struggle the waiter seemed to have at the ordering stage came to fruition, so instead of the butter chicken we got given the prawn dish, we didn't send it back as that was the other dish being considered anyway and maybe luck will help us to the better dish. The prawn dish did only have 3 large prawns, which was annoying because we shared each course, but was enjoyable. For dessert we ordered both options which was pistachio milk cake and gulab jaman, both of which were tasty, especially the milk cake. There was a large family eating next to us which were pretty loud and distracting which diminished our enjoyment but that isn't the fault of the restaurant.Lunch for 2 with 2 cocktails, a glass of red wine each and 4 courses, including service charge, cost about £210.Not cheap but we were pretty happy with the experience. We would recommend Jamavar, not perfect but glad we went.
