Aska restaurant was truly amazing. Everything was meticulously prepared from start to finish; every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. The food was exquisite, creative, and unforgettable, yet the atmosphere remained warm and comfortable. I absolutely loved the overall ambiance of this restaurant.
The food was extraordinary, fascinating to look at, very creative. The problem is most dishes did not taste very good. The scallop dish for example, was very bland. Also while it’s a tasting menu, some dishes like the venison were comically small. This isn’t wagu deer, sorry. Even things like the bread were not particularly good. The highlight was probably the quail dish and the one with the black caviar on top.
❄️ The Nordic Soul Beneath the Brooklyn Bridge: Aska's Primitive Purity Hidden within the old industrial buildings of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Aska is helmed by Swedish chef Fredrik Berselius. More than just a restaurant, it's a sensory journey to the Scandinavian wilderness, perfectly translating the tranquility, coldness, and purity of Scandinavia into the steel jungle of New York. 🌑 Immersive Aesthetics of Black: Minimalism and Mystery Aska's spatial design showcases remarkable restraint: • Visual Immersion: The interior is predominantly black, complemented by minimalist lighting, allowing diners' attention to be fully focused on the illuminated countertops and exquisite plate art. • Primitive Atmosphere: The open kitchen, with its wood-fired interior, contrasts with the cool-toned decor, creating a unique tension that is both modern and imbued with a primitive tribal feel. 🌲 Soul Cuisine: A Tribute to the Earth and a Vintage Experience Aska's cuisine is renowned for its use of locally sourced ingredients and innovative use of traditional methods, each dish imbued with the rich flavors of the forest and the sea: • Layered Appetizers: • Delicate Appetizers: The dish presented on a dark ceramic plate, pictured here, utilizes abundant herbs and delicate layering, showcasing the crispness and acidity balance common in Nordic cuisine. • The Extreme Use of Ingredients: From dried moss to fermented berries, the chef skillfully uses ingredients of different textures to create surprising and delightful combinations. • Signature Seafood and Mountain Delicacies: • Artisanal Fish Dishes: The visually appealing and firm fish dish pictured here is typically served with a concentrated sauce made from kelp or bone broth, presenting an ultimate umami flavor. • Obsessive Attention to Detail: Whether it's appetizers served on natural stone or desserts presented in wooden containers, every detail reflects a reverence for nature.
The portions are small, but each dish is like a miniature work of art and tastes great.
The online reviews are good, I came here to check in, the dishes are creative and the presentation is exquisite
