We visited Monello after seeing that they offer pasta mixed in a Cheese Wheel. Having enjoyed similar meals in Florence, we were anxious to find something comparable, close to home. Monello was wonderful.
They recommended us to go to this place as it was one of the Air Buffet owner's favorite places in Little Italy. He was absolutely right. We each had a drink and three of the chef's creations to taste. The manager came to our table to chat and told us that the apps were where the chef was free to create whatever he/she wanted. All three were very nice and just teased what was to come.

I had good recommendations and three went in I considered choosing the noodles. I may have made the wrong choice but I don't think so because it was amazing. I usually take some home with dinner but this was so good I ate it all at the restaurant. We were told the noodles were made fresh daily but I knew they were fresh from the start! I considered returning after eating another choice the other night I had because the noodles were so good. However the manager Paul offered some places we could enjoy in San Diego. We tried two of them and he was absolutely right yes. I would tell you the names of the other places but I think you need to go to Monello first after you eat to get recommendations for other places.
Love this place. Sat outside for Saturday's Italian Street Festival after buying homemade, inventive pickles and marinara sauce from a local vendor. The pizza here is so delicious! Creative, attractive. The atmosphere is fun...people watching too. The service is impeccable, both the débutante and the waitstaff. Never overbearing, but helpful when needed. We had pizza monello and company, both were delicious and served between the four of us. The tables outside may be narrow, but they staged our pizzas to order. We like outdoor service so we were happy with that. If you are lucky enough to find a spot, park out front. Maybe a couple blocks to walk, but I felt completely safe in their downtown area. Great views from many downtown attractions, so don't hesitate. A little pricey compared to chain pie shops, but worth it.
If in the downtown Little Italy neighborhood, don't miss this treat.
Went to the airport for dinner with his office manager - great service! Our table was ready when we got there and we didn't have to wait at all, they weren't busy and there was no line to get in, I highly recommend booking. They have a very good bar menu - they make their own sherry so the house specialty cocktails feature. Me, I don't like anything that tastes of alcohol so the specialty cocktails for the evening are my go to - blood orange liqueur and sparkling delicious! Appetizers - definitely try the panzerotti, OMG, 4 bites of heaven, and 3 of the plates, it could be eaten! Hubs had the salami app and braised ossobuco and raved about it! He had a big appetite and ended up taking half home. I had the sea scallops, I'm not really a seafood person and wanted veggies, they were a little too salty for me so I was disappointed but after those mini calzones and a side of fried mousse and tomato sauce I certainly didn't leave hungry. Dessert: the cake del Nonna, hands down! Perfect flavor, texture, and definitely not lacking in pine nuts. All in all a very good experience!
My wife and I have several favorite restaurants in Little Italy, but we'd never been here. We gave it a try and were delighted. We forgot about the pizza and went for the main course. My wife had a cauliflower soufflé and I had the Pasta de Niro with shrimp and octopus. Both were excellent. The soufflé was truly divine. Creamy, rich, and with a subtle cauliflower flavor. I love cauliflower, but I never knew it could be this good. The pasta was well-textured, slightly salty, and generous with shrimp and octopus. We chose Barbara's from "Click." It was excellent and at a very good price.

The only reason I didn't rate the restaurant as excellent was minor, but it was a bother. We ordered appetizers and drinks to start our meal, and the main courses arrived a few minutes after the appetizers and drinks. This made our meal start quickly, and we didn't have many cocktails because we had a good wine to drink.
