TheForkUserEven though Montreaux is one of the most expensive cities we have ever visited anywhere in the world, our dinner at Chez John is HANDS DOWN the best dining value anywhere. There are plenty of reasons why the ratings for this restaurant are so consistently high. For us…the two big standouts were the quality of the cuts of beef we ordered, and surprisingly (for us) the bottle of John’s “Red” we consumed with our meal. We stayed at the Fairmont which is known for great service. The food…not so much. We ate at other top rated choices like “Why Montreaux?” And realized the name of the restaurant might be ironic. It’s not that the food there was bad…it just made us miss the food and experience at Chez John a short walk away. We really enjoyed the quality of the food and the gracious attention of our hosts. Don’t skip this one.

柚子FIXU10 for ambience, 10 for food, romantic place (we sat by the window!) with nice wine and food. Had a romantic evening here after we got engaged. Some of the dishes were close to star level. Like the Grand Dining Room, we would happily go back there again if we were to.

The service is friendly, just that the food explanations are a bit too quick, so that they tend to be very difficult to recall. One point to improve on is the waiting time between courses, which seemed a bit long. Overall, for a 5-course menu we spent almost 3 hours, of which about 2 hours was waiting time. A big plus was that the chef came out to greet the guests. With its outstanding food the restaurant should be considered for a Michelin Star soon.
