Wenyan_203Azheke, an ancient Hani village surrounded by mountains and terraces, has a history of more than 210 years.
The village is not big, with only 65 households living on traditional planting and animal husbandry. Now, thanks to the "Azheke Plan", every household has a "tourism meal". The traditional Hani culture, four-element isomorphism (forest, village, terrace, water system), and mushroom house are its main attractions.
The mushroom house in Azheke is very distinctive. The house, which is warm in winter and cool in summer, is divided into two or three floors and is shaped like a mushroom. From the terrace, it looks exquisite and unique. In those days, the movie "Ask the West" also came here to shoot.
Azheke is an indispensable attraction when you come to Yuanyang to see the terraces.
We drove here by ourselves, which is relatively convenient. The ultraviolet rays in Yunnan are very strong, so we applied sunscreen. It is recommended to go out early. When we arrived in Azheke, it was already ten o'clock in the morning, which was a bit late.
It is the peak tourist season in Honghe Prefecture. In the parking lot, I saw several large tourist buses, most of which were sunset tour groups. After retirement, they don’t crowd scenic spots with office workers during holidays, and they don’t get stuck in traffic when they travel during off-peak hours.
The so-called Azheke Plan is actually a tourism poverty alleviation solution, and it is a mechanism for Chinese universities to help rural areas. Tourists visiting the village and buying tickets is one of the income.
The village is mostly middle-aged and elderly. In recent years, some young people have returned to their hometowns to start businesses and opened restaurants and cafes at their doorsteps. Azheke’s famous "Huotang Coffee" is one of them. However, Huotang Coffee was closed when we went there. Upon inquiry, they said that they were short of staff.
Lunch was solved in the village. This restaurant called "Red Rice Farmer" was opened by a local Hani couple. The wife doesn't speak Chinese, but she can understand what we say.
I especially like the ancient banyan square next to the water mill. Sitting under the towering trees, the spring breeze brings us freshness after we have walked out of the sweat. Go down the steps of the square and you will reach the terraced fields. Looking back from the terraced fields, you can see the mushroom houses.
