肖溪古镇始建于明末清初湖广填四川时，有大批肖姓移民于此以开店为生，因这里有渠江水运码头，又是渠县通往广安的必经之道，过往行人，贩夫商贾使这里生意兴隆，因此店铺逐渐增多，街道也是越建越长，到了清末，这里形成了一条长三百余米的石板路，后来虽因战火破坏了古镇原有建筑，但经后世重建，而达到了今天的规模。街道全长约450米，依山而筑，呈逐级递建多进式布局，街房系穿逗木梁架结构，小青瓦屋面，单檐悬山式屋顶，分一楼一底和平房两种。肖溪古镇最著名的就是左右阶沿形成风格独特的宽敞长廊，向沿街面各伸出4—5米，檐廊下地面比街心露天地面高出0.6至1米，赶场交易全部在檐廊下进行。晴天不被太阳晒，雨天不被大雨淋。正如俗谚所云：“落雨赶肖溪，买卖不湿衣；热天赶肖溪，清凉如家里”。古镇未经修缮打造，还保留原始风貌，街上虽然游人稀少，但据当地人说，大假期间也被游客挤得水泄不通呢。
