Mount Jesus is also known as Camelback Mountain, officially Mount Corvado. Located on the east side of Chijuca National Forest Park, it is one of the must-see attractions in Rio de Janeiro and a symbol of Brazil and Rio. On another 710-meter mountain stands a giant statue of Jesus, which is one of the world's most famous monumental sculptures and was selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.Brazil · Rio de Janeiro

Iguazu Falls

9.7
4.8/5
186 reviews
Iguazu Falls in South America is one of the world's five great waterfalls, known for its vast width. The name "Iguazu" means "great water" in the language of the Guarani, the indigenous people of South America. The falls are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil. In 1984, Iguazu Falls was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. What sets Iguazu Falls apart is the multitude of viewing points, offering different perspectives from various locations, directions, and heights. The entire waterfall system is vast in quantity, majestic in scale, and awe-inspiring in sound, creating an unforgettable experience. 1. Waterfall history In the 1540s, Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca wrote about it in European records when he traversed the rainforest. The formation of such a spectacular waterfall at Iguazu is inseparable from its geological and geographical conditions. The current terrain was shaped by volcanic eruptions 1.2 billion years ago. The Paraná River valley in Brazil consists of north-south trending basalt, while the Iguazu River and its bedrock run perpendicular to the Paraná River, resulting in much weaker erosion compared to the Paraná. Even today, the waterfall continues to change and will keep evolving. The transformation of what was once a basalt plateau into today's breathtaking landscape is truly awe-inspiring. 2. Waterfall details The Iguazu River originates in the Mar Mountains near Curitiba, winding westward through the Brazilian Highlands for 1,320 km. Before merging into the Paraná River, it collects over 30 tributaries along its course. At Iguazu Falls, the river widens to 4 km. Iguazu Falls is a spectacle whose power, form, and thunderous roar can only be believed after experiencing it firsthand. Under the sunlight, it creates countless fantastical rainbows, presenting a magnificent sight. Iguazu Falls far surpasses Niagara Falls in North America in both height and width, offering a more majestic and splendid view. Its roaring waters can be heard from 30 km away, making it a true wonder of the world. Located in a subtropical region, Iguazu Falls maintains relatively stable water levels throughout the year. The local rainy season from January to March brings the highest water flow, making it the best time to visit, while the dry season from August to October sees reduced water volume. 3. Devil's throat Nearly half the water of the Iguazu River squeezes into this U-shaped crack, tumbling down to the valley floor over 80 m below, roaring like rolling thunder, with mist rising dozens of meters high. On sunny days, rainbows almost hang over the curtain of mist all day long. 4. In-park activities A few years ago, Iguazu Falls was operated by a private company, which built about 20 km of sightseeing boardwalks, laid an electric railway, and completely upgraded the tourism facilities. Within the attraction, visitors can walk along the boardwalks or take a sightseeing train to explore various attractions. At the end of the boardwalk, there is a tower where an elevator takes you directly to the top of the falls for a side view of Iguazu Falls. Getting up close to the waterfalls is one of the most thrilling activities in Iguazu – riding a speedboat into the falls and weaving through them is incredibly exhilarating. However, this is an optional activity (fees excluded) costing $60 per ride, and requires going downstream first. First, take a sightseeing vehicle through the jungle (it's said that the seeds of a certain tree along the way are exclusively used for French perfumes, while some plants serve as staple food for indigenous people). After disembarking, transfer to a jeep to descend several steep slopes before reaching the speedboat departure point. Travelers need to wear raincoats and life jackets before boarding the speedboat. The boat moves upstream at a relatively fast speed, with rapid currents. When approaching the waterfalls, the boat stops to allow travelers to take photos, then revs up and charges straight toward the falls. This is repeated several times, making it an extremely thrilling experience. 5. Differences between touring Argentina and Brazil The waterfalls are distributed on both sides of the canyon, which serves as the border between Argentina and Brazil, offering strikingly different views from each country. The park on the Brazilian side is one of Brazil's larger forest reserves, covering 170,000 hectares and home to abundant wildlife. In Argentina, there are two tour routes: the lower path winds through dense forests, allowing you to admire the grandeur or charm of each waterfall section from below—truly a new view every ten steps. The upper path offers a top-down experience of the waterfalls' cascading power. On the Brazilian side, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the main waterfalls in Argentina.Argentina · Iguazu
Beco do Batman

Beco do Batman

42 reviews
Beco do Batman is located in the Vila Madalena neighborhood and is an open-air graffiti gallery formed by the intersection of several narrow alleyways. The name originates from a Batman comic graffiti that appeared on the walls in the 1980s. Since then, students from local art schools have created a large number of graffiti works influenced by Cubism and psychedelic styles on the alley walls, gradually turning the entire area into a colorful street art hub. Almost every inch of the alley, from the walls to the sidewalks, is covered in spray paint, making a stroll through it feel like walking through an ever-growing open-air art gallery. It continues to attract graffiti artists from Brazil and around the world to leave new works. Old works are covered by new paintings with the permission of the original artists, so the visuals on the walls are always updating. The graffiti you see each time you visit may be different from the last, and this ever-changing appearance is exactly why the alley attracts people to visit again and again.Brazil · Sao Paulo

Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest stretches across the South American continent, spanning multiple countries including Brazil, Peru, and Colombia, and is the world's most vast tropical rainforest. It is home to an extremely rich variety of species; from jaguars, pink river dolphins, and macaws to giant otters, countless animals thrive between the dense forests and rivers. Upon arriving in the rainforest, one of the signature experiences is seeing the meeting of waters—the dark Rio Negro and the yellowish-brown Solimões River flow side-by-side here for several km without mixing, forming a distinct natural view. Taking a boat to the confluence, you can also encounter wild pink river dolphins on the river; these freshwater dolphins often curiously approach boats. The rainforest waters are also home to the Amazon water lily, whose massive, circular leaves can support the weight of a child. Venturing deep into the interior, you can paddle a canoe through the waterways of the Anavilhanas Archipelago to explore the flooded forest view; you can also hike through the jungle to identify various tropical plants and listen to the calls of birds and insects. At night, taking a small boat to look for the reflective eyes of caimans or fishing for piranhas are unique wild experiences in the rainforest. Visiting residents along the river to learn about their lifestyles and traditions of coexisting with the forest adds cultural depth to this nature trip.Brazil · Codajas

Sugarloaf Mountain

8.2
4.7/5
301 reviews
Sugarloaf Mountain stands at the entrance to Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro and is a peak approx. 400 m high. Its name comes from its resemblance to the traditional conical sugar loaves used in sugar refining—a conical mold used to store raw sugar before the advent of sugar cubes. Although the Chinese name contains the word "bread," it has nothing to do with bread. At the foot of the mountain, ruins of a fortress built during the Portuguese colonial period remain, bearing witness to the former military importance of this bay entrance. The classic way to reach the summit is by cable car. The cable car operates in two stages: the first stage goes from the Praia Vermelha station at the foot of the mountain to the adjacent Urca Hill, and the second stage goes from Urca Hill to the summit. Upon reaching the observation deck, you can overlook the panoramic view of Guanabara Bay and downtown Rio to the north, see the curved coastline of Copacabana Beach to the south, gaze at the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain to the west, and see the vast Atlantic Ocean to the east. If you reach the summit at dusk, you can watch the sunset slowly sink behind the ridge in the direction of the Christ the Redeemer statue, with the city lights gradually turning on. The Urca Hill transfer station has a dining area and an observation deck, where you can sit and rest between transfers.Brazil · Rio de Janeiro

Ibirapuera Park is situated in the heart of Sao Paulo. Its main buildings were designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, and the landscape was planned by Roberto Burle Marx. It opened in 1954. Nestled among dense skyscrapers, this open green space is like an oasis in the city. The park features lakes of various sizes, jogging tracks, sports fields, and bicycle paths. On weekends, you can always see local residents running, cycling, and skateboarding here, creating a lively and relaxed atmosphere. The park is home to several cultural facilities. The Museum of Modern Art of Sao Paulo exhibits Brazilian modern and contemporary art. The Oca exhibition hall is a highly recognizable building in the park due to its unique dome shape. The Afro Brazil Museum systematically displays the history and cultural traditions of African-descendant groups in Brazil. The Ibirapuera Auditorium, also designed by Niemeyer, frequently hosts concerts and cultural performances and is an important place to experience the artistic atmosphere of Sao Paulo. The Monument to the Bandeiras at the park entrance is a large granite group sculpture created by sculptor Victor Brecheret, depicting the 17th-century pioneers who ventured deep into the Brazilian interior. The entire sculpture is magnificent and is a must-see attraction in the park. The park covers a large area, and you can rent bicycles or pedal boats to explore around the lake. Sunset by the lake is a great photo opportunity, with the pavilions designed by Niemeyer reflecting beautifully on the water.Brazil · Sao Paulo

Iguaçu National Park is located on the basalt geological belt of Parana, Brazil, and faces the national park on the Argentina side across the Iguazu River, together protecting the subtropical rainforest that spans the border between the two countries. The park contains five ecosystems and nurtures over 2,000 species of vascular plants and hundreds of bird species, serving as an important habitat for representative South American wildlife such as tapirs, giant otters, anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars, and caimans. The park's core view is Iguazu Falls. The falls are approx. 2,700 m wide, consist of hundreds of waterfalls of various sizes, and have a drop of up to approx. 82 m. There are various ways to explore the park. You can take a helicopter to overlook the entire view of the waterfalls and rainforest from the air; the Macuco Safari water adventure departs by speedboat from the Iguazu River, passes through waters such as Parrot Island, and sails close to the bottom of the waterfall curtain, where visitors will be drenched by the mist and feel the power of the rushing water up close; or you can choose to take a slow boat ride along the river, observing aquatic plants and wildlife along the banks, and after disembarking at Bananeiras Port, walk deep into the rainforest interior.Brazil · Matelandia

Devil's Throat is one of the core sections of Iguazu Falls, located on the Argentina side. Multiple river channels converge at the edge of a semicircular basalt formation, forming a U-shaped abyss where approx. 14 waterfalls cascade down simultaneously, with a drop of over 80m, creating a concentrated and fierce volume of water. The massive water curtain plunges into a narrow rift, with mist rising and filling the air. To reach the viewing platform, you need to take the park's sightseeing train through the tropical rainforest, then walk along the steel walkway built over the upper reaches of the Iguazu River. Along the walkway, the river surface is wide and calm, occasionally dotted with flocks of birds and small islands, contrasting with the sudden drop of the waterfall at the end. The viewing platform is suspended above the main waterfall, allowing you to watch the water cascading down and feel the mist hitting your face up close.Argentina · Iguazu

Monumento a las Bandeiras

38 reviews
Monumento a las Bandeiras stands in the plaza at the entrance of Ibirapuera Park and is the masterpiece of Italian-Brazilian sculptor Victor Brecheret. The entire sculpture is carved from granite, approx. 50 m long and 16 m high, and is composed of a large number of granite boulders, giving it a massive scale. The group sculpture takes as its theme the "Bandeirantes" expeditions that set out from Sao Paulo in the 17th century to explore the interior of Brazil, depicting a scene of a pioneering team composed of different ethnic groups working together to drag a canoe forward. Leading the group sculpture are two riders on horseback; one looks forward with head held high, while the other looks back at the team behind. They are followed by a group of figures of various shapes and sizes, including Portuguese, African, and other faces, both men and women, holding various tools and working together to drag a canoe, recreating the scene of expeditions that ventured deep into the interior along the river. The postures of the figures in the entire sculpture are full of movement, and the rough granite texture complements the tension of the figures' muscles, presenting a distinct modernist style. The conception and completion of this group sculpture spanned over 30 years, and it is an important symbol of the modernist art movement in Sao Paulo. The sculpture is located in the park's entrance plaza and can be viewed up close as you pass by.Brazil · Sao Paulo

Copacabana Beach is a crescent-shaped coastline about 4 km long in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, adjacent to Ipanema Beach. Stretching along the Atlantic Ocean, the beach features soft sand, blue waters, and a warm climate year-round, making it a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing. The stone mosaic promenade along the beach is an iconic view. In the 1970s, Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx redesigned the traditional Portuguese stone mosaic into a black-and-white wave pattern, giving the entire promenade both artistic beauty and a distinct identity. Numbered lifeguard towers line the promenade, and different sections attract different crowds—from families to surfers, each occupying a stretch and forming a unique beach zoning culture. The rhythm of life on the beach is driven by kiosks and street vendors: the kiosks provide drinks and lounge chairs, while vendors weave through the crowd selling everything from grilled cheese to sunscreen. Beach volleyball, beach soccer, and footvolley, a sport originating in Brazil, can be seen everywhere here.Brazil · Rio de Janeiro

Christ the Redeemer, standing atop Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. This 30-meter-tall statue of Jesus Christ, with arms outstretched over the city, symbolizes peace and faith. Completed in 1931, it’s made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Rio’s beaches, mountains, and the Sugarloaf. Reached by train or hiking trail through Tijuca National Park, the journey itself is scenic and memorable. At sunrise or sunset, the statue glows against the sky, creating a truly spiritual and awe-inspiring experience—an unmissable highlight for any traveler to Brazil.

The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world, larger than Europe, at 7 million square kilometers. Stretching from the lower slopes of the Andes Mountains to the Atlantic coast of Brazil, the Amazon rainforest is vital to the health of the world and all the living things that live in it. The trees absorb carbon dioxide, a gas that in large quantities warms the planet and harms the climate, melting the polar ice caps and causing floods. Trees also produce oxygen, which is essential for human and all animal life. Some rainforest trees grow extremely tall, reaching more than 60 meters. Their leaves form a "canopy" like an umbrella that blocks out the light, so that few short plants grow under the trees.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a must-visit site in Rio. We went on a Monday at 16:00, thinking we would make it up in time for sunset at 17:30. The queue was so long that the attendants just laughed when we asked for an estimate. We went to the beach instead, then prebooked tickets on CTrip for the next day. The process of using the tickets was a bit confusing. When we arrived at the cable station at 15:00 we were told to go to the reception desk to have our proof of booking printed out. A kind lady at reception helped us do this luckily, but it was a bit confusing due to the language barrier. After we’d printed the proof we had to go to another window to collect our physical ticket and were then allowed to join the queue to board the cable car quite far ahead of the back of the line - so even though the process was confusing, booking online definitely helped. This is the one occasion where I would say that paying extra to skip the queue is really worth it!!! The Sugar Loaf cable car ride is actually divided into two separate segments. This means that you queue to get tickets, queue to board the first cable car, queue to board the second cable car, and then queue twice more to go back down - and each time you’re queuing for about 30 minutes! And this was on a Tuesday in July; I can’t imagine what it’s like on the weekend. Anyway, the pictures show that it was definitely worth the effort:)

The Devil's Throat in Argentina is the most stunning chapter of the Iguazu Falls. The roar resounds through the valley, and the majestic momentum hits the soul directly, showing the wild beauty of nature's uncanny craftsmanship.
