One of Tokyo's oldest and most significant Buddhist temples, Sensō-ji is located in the city's Asakusa District. Dedicated to the Bodhisattva of compassion, the first temple was founded as far back as 645 CE. Destroyed during World War II, Sensō-ji was eventually rebuilt and stands now as a symbol of rebirth and peace. Many small shops line the main street approaching the temple. It is a popular area for tourists and among the more well-known parts of Tokyo. Each spring a grand festival is held in and around Sensō-ji. Over the course of a few days upwards of 2 million people visit the temple complex.Tokyo · 30.4km from Chiba City

Asakusa

Asakusa is a traditional district in Tokyo that developed around Senso-ji Temple, offering a distinct atmosphere from modern commercial areas like Ginza, Shinjuku, and Shibuya. It retains the charm of Edo's old downtown and is regarded as a microcosm of ancient Edo culture. Historically, Asakusa suffered severe damage twice—from fires after the Great Kanto Earthquake and WWII air raids—but gradually regained popularity during postwar reconstruction. Today, it epitomizes old Tokyo. The heart of the district is Senso-ji, a Buddhist temple founded in the 7th century. Its entrance, Kaminarimon ("Thunder Gate"), features a massive red lantern inscribed with the gate's name and is flanked by statues of the wind and thunder gods, where people once prayed for good harvests and weather. The bustling Nakamise shopping street, lined with red storefronts, connects Kaminarimon to Hozomon Gate and the main hall, selling traditional snacks like ningyo-yaki, Edo-era toys, and crafts, with some shops over a century old. Kimono rentals are also available here. Nearby, Asakusa Shrine, built in the Edo period, is worth a visit, while Denbo-in Temple's garden can only be admired from outside. Asakusa also hosts traditional festivals: the Sanja Matsur in May at Asakusa Shrine embodies Edo's vibrant spirit, alongside summer's "Hozuki Market" at Senso-ji, the "Tori-no-Ichi" fair at Otori Shrine in early winter, and year-end "Hagoita Market." Sumida Park along the Sumida River is a famed cherry blossom spot, with boat rides offering waterfront views in spring. The summer fireworks festival on the river is a major annual event. For Edo-style cuisine, classics like tempura, soba, and eel are easy to find. With extra time, explore Kappabashi Street, known for kitchenware and food replicas. The area is easily explored on foot or by rickshaw.Tokyo · 30.7km from Chiba City

TeamLab Planets TOKYO is an immersive digital art attraction created by art collective teamLab where visitors "step into water." Here, you take off your shoes, roll up your pants, and walk barefoot through water, strolling among flowers and light. The artworks are generated in real-time by algorithms and continuously transform in response to your movements and those around you, subtly blurring the boundaries between people, artworks, and others. This venue once set the Guinness World Record for annual attendance by a single art group's attraction and has twice been awarded "Asia's leading tourist attraction" at the World Travel Awards. Water-themed spaces are the signature here. "The infinite water surface depicted by dancing koi and people" allows you to step into water approx. knee-deep, where countless koi swim across the endlessly extending surface, transforming into scattered flowers upon contact and blooming flora that changes with the seasons. In the "Boundless crystal universe," strings of light sculptures stretch infinitely in all directions, letting you use your phone to cast stars into the space and personally shape this sea of stars. The garden area's "Floating garden" fills the entire space with soil-free orchids growing in midair, where flowers rise as you walk and their fragrance subtly shifts with the time of day. The "Sports forest" zone transforms the art museum into a three-dimensional playground: leap on glowing bouncing balls, climb colorful poles suspended in midair, step on balance stones that change with your movements, and explore the world with your body. The "Capture and collect forest" lets you use a mobile app to capture various extinct animals and compile your own illustrated guide. The "Co-create! Future garden" invites everyone to paint together, with finished airplanes and butterflies flying into the world in 3D—especially great for family-friendly fun. Experience tips: Barefoot is required in water and garden areas. We recommend wearing pants or shorts with roll-up hems for convenience. Some areas have mirrored floors where pants are more practical than skirts. For 3D exploration areas like the sports forest, wear shoes suitable for activity. △Carp swim across the boundless water surface. When they collide with people, they scatter and flee into the flowers. △A series of light sculptures extend infinitely. △In this space, a world full of life is unfolding, with flowers blooming all year round, constantly changing and evolving over time.Tokyo · 29km from Chiba City

Shibuya is a commercial and entertainment district near JR Shibuya station, standing alongside Shinjuku and Ikebukuro as one of Tokyo's three major sub-centers and one of the city's bustling neighborhoods. Every time the traffic light turns green, the massive crosswalk in front of JR Shibuya station is engulfed by waves of pedestrians, while giant billboards and digital screens around reflect the energy of this busy metropolis. Shibuya is the birthplace of youth culture. In this 24-hour sleepless district, various trendy fashion shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment centers gather, and street band performances can often be seen. Major department stores are also vibrant with the presence of young people. In Shibuya, even the outfits of passersby are stylish enough, with many fashion magazines like "ViVi" and "Mina" sourcing their street snaps from here. Thanks to the prevalence of trend culture, the area is filled with fashionable men and women, and avant-garde or even eccentric outfits are not uncommon. Shopping route recommendations When shopping in Shibuya, it's recommended to start from the bustling Shibuya crossing, pass through the busy pedestrian zone Center Street and Spain Slope, and take a break at the spacious Yoyogi Park when tired. This route allows you to experience Shibuya's typical youthful atmosphere. Statue of Hachiko When you exit from the Hachiko exit of Shibuya station, you will see the statue of Hachiko. The story of Hachiko, who kept waiting for his deceased owner in front of JR Shibuya station, is well-known throughout Japan. Today, the area in front of this statue is one of Tokyo's popular meeting spots. Why not take a photo with Hachiko? Shibuya 109 Shibuya crossing is surrounded by department stores and is a highly photographed location. Across the street, Shibuya 109 houses over 120 boutique shops, offering trendy fashion that is highly representative and popular among young women, with sales staff even adopting cute and playful attitudes. Shibuya 109 also has a dedicated men's section, which is equally popular. Shibuya center street Shibuya center street pedestrian area is dotted with shops, restaurants and bars, creating a somewhat dazzling scene. It remains lively until midnight, offering a glimpse into the lives of Japanese youth. Spanish ramp A 100-m-long slope connects Shibuya Center Street to Parco department store, named for its resemblance to Spanish streets. Though inconspicuous, the Spanish slope exudes a trendy vibe with its unique shops on both sides. Here you'll find bakeries and restaurants using natural ingredients, as well as delicious coffee and wine that attract many foreign visitors. Walking up the steps through this shortcut leads to Parco, another clothing department store. Yoyogi park Continue north and you'll reach Yoyogi Park. The beautiful flowers and fountains in the park create an urban oasis for birds, where you can take a break and organize your finds from the journey. Shibuya's fashion culture in Shibuya, besides shopping, you can also experience the trendy youth culture. At Tokyo Wonder Site in front of Parco department store, you can often see works by young Japanese artists.Tokyo · 36.9km from Chiba City

Tokyo Tower, also known as the Tokyo Iron Tower, is a popular sightseeing spot in Tokyo. It is a radio tower located in Shiba Park, Tokyo, Japan. The red-and-white latticed tower was modeled on the Eiffel Tower in Paris and stands 333 meters tall. Since its completion in 1958, it has remained one of Tokyo's city landmarks, and its image and name have frequently appeared in various works of art. In recent years, as the public's expectations for scenery have risen, the tower is no longer subject to color restrictions, but its original paintwork is so distinctive that it has been kept as it is. The lighting was designed and supervised by the world-renowned lighting designer Motoko Ishii, and the lights are on from sunset to midnight. The color of the lights changes with the seasons: white in summer, and orange in spring, autumn, and winter. Tokyo Tower offers a rich array of sightseeing services. In addition to its bright, transparent observation platforms, it also has leisure and entertainment facilities such as a museum, restaurants, and shops, making a stroll here a thoroughly pleasant choice. Around Tokyo Tower, specks of light sparkle like diamonds. This lighting system can change the color of the lights into as many as seven colors, and each color carries a message. The main observation decks inside the tower are the Grand Observation Deck and the Special Observation Deck, where, on a clear day, you may also catch a glimpse of the beautiful scenery of Mount Fuji. △[Grand Observation Deck] Located at a height of 150 meters, it is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides. △The Grand Observation Deck also features several "Skywalk Windows" with glass floors, offering a direct view down to the ground and providing a thrilling experience. △The Special Observation Deck is a viewing area open only to visitors with advance reservations. It boasts a futuristic design with dazzling mirrored installations throughout. The tour is buided commentary by a professional guide whose warm and friendly service and detailed buided commentary will give you a comprehensive understanding of Tokyo Tower's past and future.Tokyo · 33.1km from Chiba City

Nice park, a lot of entertainment, but we happened to go on a Sunday and it was extremely crowded. An upside is that you can buy a pass, which is rather affordable, and it can help you experience more in one day. We bought passes for 2 attractions, and even with them were not able to attend everything, which was a pity, cause we spent most of the day queuing. I guess the situation is different on weekdays.

Yes, it gets extremely crowded (especially weekends, holidays, and peak midday hours), but that energy is part of its charm for many. Go early or late and the experience becomes almost serene.

Shibuya Sky was easily one of my favourite experiences in Tokyo, and I would definitely recommend it over other observation decks in the city. The views are incredible, and the atmosphere at night is immaculate. I got lucky and managed to grab an 8 PM slot after repeatedly checking for availability, as tickets tend to sell out very quickly, especially around sunset. If you visit during the day on a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji. The price is very reasonable for the experience, and getting in was easy and straightforward. The signs were clear, and I didn't have to wait too long. I ended up spending almost two hours up there, enjoying the views and just relaxing. My biggest tip is to book as soon as tickets become available, especially if you want the sunset slot. It's absolutely worth it!

Electronic ticketing was very convenient. Upon arrival, I simply scanned the code to enter. Throughout the visitor platform, a staff member provided explanations and accompaniment; the service was excellent. Before setting off, I checked the weather forecast, which predicted the best visibility between 4-6 PM, around 20 kilometers, so I went up the tower at 4:30 PM. There weren't many people, and I leisurely walked around the tower twice, getting a panoramic view of Tokyo – very impressive! 👍 The only slight disappointment was that there were clouds over Mount Fuji, so I couldn't see it.
