Reviews: Beijing Gubei Water Town + Simatai Great Wall private car tour, Chinese and English-speaking driver, one car per family, entrance fees included.

Shortly after taking the photo, someone met us and took us directly to the hotel, which was very convenient and hassle-free. The driver was very professional and answered some questions about the scenic area along the way. He also arranged for someone to buy us cable car tickets. Once we arrived at the scenic area, someone was there to help us get on the cable car. The Great Wall was less crowded and beautiful, and I happened to catch a glimpse of the sunset. The walk down wasn't particularly tiring, though some sections were a bit steep, so I just had to hold onto the railings and go down slowly. I highly recommend a night trip with children, as it allows you to avoid the crowds and intense sun during the day. It's a fantastic experience.
Reviews: Gubei Water Town Day Trip - & Optional Night Tour of Simatai Great Wall & Optional Lunch

A wonderful excursion, we absolutely loved it! Everything was exactly as described. We purchased the boats and daytime cable car separately for 80 and 160 yuan per person, respectively. I highly recommend it. The tour price also included lunch in a hot pot, which was also perfect. We visited Gubei on November 16th, and we were lucky with the weather (sunny all day). The temperature was 3-4 degrees Celsius during the day and 0 - -2 degrees Celsius after sunset. Wrap up as warm as possible, as VKS is not only cold but also very windy. Our guide was Roberta, a wonderful woman who explained everything in detail, provided backup and assistance if needed. You can buy a super warm fleece jacket from the bus driver for 50 yuan. If you decide to take a taxi back to Beijing, it will cost around 400-500 yuan.
Reviews: Beijing W Town 1-day tour - Enjoy a special lunch / Optional night tour of the Great Wall & light show

We communicated entirely via WeChat, and the guide, Liu, was incredibly sweet! She even worried about me making it to the bus, knowing I spoke neither English nor Chinese! I took the evening pass; you could upgrade to a day pass on the bus, but I paid extra for the day pass, plus the cable car and boat ride, for an additional 280 yuan. I loved being on the wall both day and night; they were two completely different experiences! The first time, we took the cable car during the day, reached the 5th tower, then climbed up to the 10th tower (it's not easy, but worth it!), then I went down to the 1st tower and back down without the cable car (so it was possible to only take the uphill pass for the day). You can also fly down from the bottom for 80 yuan (another traveler told me this later). In the evening, I immediately climbed up to the 8th tower (it wasn’t easy), but since everyone was running to the 5th tower initially, my appearance was a reward for my efforts) and then I went down to the 5th tower and then left on the cable car.

The tour was wonderful. The bus arrived on time, and the guide Roberta was very responsive and attentive. The included lunch (hot pot) was excellent in a beautiful establishment. The Simatai section looked very picturesque.
Reviews: Full-Day Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with 5 Hours at the Site (ENG/ESP/RUS Guided Bus)
Guest User2026-01-20
Our snowy trip to the Mutianyu Great Wall was absolutely magical. Seeing the Great Wall blanketed in white snow was a breathtaking wow moment—I completely fell in love. The bus arrived on time, and our tour guide Amelia explained everything clearly on the way, which made us feel prepared and at ease. She also explained the different routes on the wall and gave us the option to choose, which we really appreciated. The countryside buffet included with our ticket was delicious and comforting—something I would happily choose over Burger King or Subway. We also loved the optional Great Wall certificate as a meaningful keepsake. The cable car ride going up was a bit scary, but the ride down was smooth and enjoyable. We’re very glad we chose Mutianyu over Badaling. There was a small misunderstanding about an earlier bus departure, but the lady organizer handled it kindly and professionally, personally apologizing and making sure everything went smoothly. The experience was surreal!
