Alyosha stands on a green cape hill on the east bank of Kola Bay in Murmansk, at an elevation of over 170 m, and the figure of this giant can be seen from many parts of the city. Its official name is the "Monument to the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War," completed in 1974 to commemorate the soldiers, sailors, and pilots who fought fiercely in the Arctic Circle during World War II. Locals gave this soldier, wearing a military overcoat and carrying a submachine gun, the affectionate nickname "Alyosha." This name comes from a widely sung song of the same name and is now more widely known than the official name. The statue itself is approximately 35 m high, and with the pedestal, the total height exceeds 42 m, making it one of the largest monumental statues in Russia. The soldier's gaze is directed westward, toward the Valley of Glory, where the fighting was particularly fierce. An eternal flame burns on the black stone platform in front of the pedestal, and an unknown soldier is buried nearby. Inside the pedestal, seawater from the area where the patrol boat "Tuman" sank and soil from the Valley of Glory battlefield are sealed, with the weight of remembrance hidden in these details. Standing on the observation deck on the hill and looking down, you can see the entire Kola Bay and the ice-free Arctic port. The midnight sun during the polar day and the twinkling lights during the polar night give this city a completely different appearance.Murmansk · 4km from downtown

This is a very beautiful monument to the memory of the local hero of the Second World War, Anatoly Bredov, who did not surrender for the German occupiers. Russians are very good at taking care of local history. Worth a visit!Murmansk · 1.8km from downtown

Sam Syyt is located in the Lovozero area of Murmansk Oblast, Russia, and is an open-air folklore village operated by the Sami people. The Sami people have lived on the tundra of the Kola Peninsula for generations, making a living by herding reindeer; here, visitors are not greeted by glass display cases, but by villagers dressed in traditional ethnic clothing who offer welcomes in the Sami language, raise the Sami flag, and guide visitors into their daily lives. The village's signature experience is feeding the reindeer by hand; you can attract the gentle reindeer to your side for a photo with just some moss, and you can also see polar animals like huskies and arctic foxes nearby. Stepping into a traditional "lavvu" tent, you can see how handmade items like reindeer hides, animal bones, beadwork, and woven goods support a nomadic family; the gallery of wooden carved idols reflects the ancient animistic beliefs of the Sami people. In winter, you can ride a reindeer sled across the snowy plains or change into colorful Sami clothing for photos; sometimes, traditional Sami games like lassoing reindeer antlers or stick pulling are organized, followed by warming up with reindeer meat dishes, cloudberry pancakes, and herbal tea. The village is located in the heart of the peninsula, and a round trip from Murmansk usually takes a full day, with various experiences mostly following the village's activity schedule.Lovozersky District · 98.1km from Murmansk

This area of Sami is very beautiful, facing the bay and with steep cliffs on the side. The uncovered narrow strips are made up of small restaurants with their own characteristics. Here you can visit the ruins of the ancient castle, stroll on the walking trail, or go to the nearby beach to enjoy the sunset. Everything here exudes antiquity and richness. 4 kilometers northeast of Sami, there is a long rocky beach backed by verdant mountains. If you drive there, the scenery on the road is a highlight. You can see very magnificent views from the edge of the cliff. There is also Melissani Cave, which is an underground seawater lake. The water is particularly blue and transparent under the sun. If you are interested, you can visit Drogarati Cave, which is a huge natural stalactite cave. Its spectacular scenery is self-evident.
