
▲ The Muriwai Gannet Colony is approximately 45 km from the city center, with a 40-min drive, and no admission ticket is required. The island consists of two massive sea-facing reefs and was named one of the world's 30 most stunning landscapes by National Geographic. From October to March each year, around 1,200 pairs of gannets nest and breed here, with nests spaced just a few centimeters apart. The white birds cover the cliffs, soaring with a wingspan of 2 meters and diving with loud calls, creating a spectacular sight.

▲ Mount Eden is an extinct volcanic cone with an elevation of 196 meters, located approximately 5 km south of the city center. The summit preserves an inverted conical crater formed by an eruption around 30,000 years ago, with a diameter of about 100 meters and a depth of 50 meters, now covered in lush grass. A 10-20 min walk along the trail leads to the summit, offering a 360° panoramic view of the city, Sky Tower, Waitemata Harbour, and the Hauraki Gulf islands in the distance.
