Id Kah MosqueLocated in the heart of Kashgar's Old Town, this is one of the largest mosques. The complex features many magnificent Islamic-style buildings that visitors can explore. The large square is usually filled with people relaxing and playing games, where bearded elders and children sit together basking in the sun, creating a peaceful and leisurely atmosphere. On the western side of the square stands the eastern gate of the mosque, which serves as its main entrance. The gate features a soft yellow facade flanked by two minarets with graceful curved designs, and a large plaque inscribed with Arabic calligraphy of the Islamic creed hangs above the entrance. Many visitors take photos here. After purchasing tickets at the eastern gate, you can enter the mosque's expansive courtyard, which stretches over 100 meters in both length and width. The area is shaded by numerous trees, offering a rare oasis of greenery and comfort in the arid climate of Kashgar. Within the courtyard, you'll find over a dozen structures, including prayer halls, lecture halls, and domed shrines, all adorned in green and showcasing distinct Islamic architectural styles. A central pool and gardens add to the serene ambiance. The main attraction is the prayer hall, located deep within the complex. Stretching over 100 meters, the hall is dominated by green hues and supported by more than a hundred towering green columns, each seven meters high. Rows of prayer mats mark the worship area. Inside, the hall is devoid of any human imagery, adhering to Islamic traditions. After exploring the courtyard and its structures, visitors can exit through the eastern gate. Beyond admiring the architecture, witnessing the grand prayer ceremonies is a highlight of visiting the mosque. Five daily prayers are held, during which the mosque is closed to visitors, but the rituals can be observed from outside. Before each prayer, the mosque's broadcast system fills the air with the hauntingly beautiful call to prayer. Soon after, two to three thousand worshippers gather—so many that some spill onto the square and surrounding areas when the mosque reaches capacity. The scene is both solemn and awe-inspiring. On Fridays, the Islamic day of congregational prayer (Jumu'ah), the number of worshippers swells to six or seven thousand, sometimes even exceeding ten thousand, creating an unforgettable spectacle. Additionally, during major Islamic festivals like Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr, tens of thousands gather here to celebrate with music and dance. If your visit coincides with these events, don't miss the chance to witness the vibrant festivities.China · Kashgar City

Yotkan Ancient CityThe Ancient Khotan Art Gallery of the Western Regions Yotkan Ancient City is a large-scale immersive historical and cultural attraction centered around the ancient Khotan culture of China's Western Regions, integrating representative artistic elements from the region. It showcases both the Buddhist art that flourished during the Western Regions period and the Central Plains Tang Dynasty culture admired by ancient Khotan, along with the brilliant cultural treasures accumulated throughout Hotan's long history. Using modern culture and technology, it recreates the prosperous scenes of China's Western Regions era. The attraction is located in Bagqi Town, Hotan County, Xinjiang. Hotan, anciently known as Khotan, was a key town on the southern route of the ancient Silk Road and has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times. Nestled against the Kunlun Mountains to the south and the vast desert to the north, it marks the starting point of China's Jade Road, the origin of the Kunlun myth of the Queen Mother of the West, and the first stop of Buddhism's eastward spread into China. Here, the world's four great civilizations collided and blended, gradually forming a unique regional culture that scholars have dubbed the "Oriental Pearl" of the Western Regions. YotkanLegend has it that this was the capital of the ancient Khotan Kingdom during the Han and Tang dynasties. It is now located in Ailaman Village, Bagqi Town, Hotan County. According to legend, in the 1860s...Karakash RiverThe river changed its course, carving out a long, deep trench that revealed a wealth of historical artifacts from the Han to Song dynasties—this is the mysterious Yotkan Ruins. In 2020, the Yotkan Ancient City cultural tourism project grandly launched, reviving the millennia-old cultural heritage. Rooted in ancient Khotan culture and inspired by historical records of royal cityscapes, it blends cultural essence with architectural aesthetics. Featuring square layouts, red walls, and white structures across its 156-acre site, the project meticulously integrates diverse spaces: food streets, artisan workshops, folk culture zones, jade treasure markets, royal promenades, bar districts, boutique homestays, poverty alleviation product displays, and five cultural exhibition halls. This revitalizes Hotan's tourism landscape while crafting a distinctive regional identity. Yotkan,Legend has it that this was the capital of ancient Khotan during the Han and Tang dynasties. In the local language, it carries two meanings: "Land of Kings" and "Quilt," symbolizing the precious civilizations buried beneath this land. The architectural aesthetics of the Western Regions Royal City Scenic area overallThe architectural design adopts square fortifications, red walls, and white structures as its primary elements. Inspired by a 10th-century mural of the Khotan Kingdom's capital preserved in Dunhuang's Cave 454, the layout reveals a square royal city with two gates, corner towers at each wall, a surrounding moat, and inner governmental offices and temples. The restoration of Yotkan Ancient City also draws from historical records describing the ancient western ruins of Khotan—the Akspili Ancient City (meaning "White City"). Additionally, influenced by "Sand-Buried Khotan," the outer walls feature sand mounds to recreate the historical appearance of the ancient city. Inside the attractionThe layout is well-arranged, with most buildings featuring the Xinjiang "Ayiwan" residential style. "Ayiwan" is a Uyghur term meaning "bright dwelling," characterized by intricate wood carvings of animals, figures, and flowers, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. This architectural style dates back 300–400 years, with its prototype emerging as early as the late Han to Tang dynasties. The *Travel Notes of Song Yun* records that Khotan had "houses and markets everywhere, with city walls and flowers resembling Luoyang, distinguished only by its flat-roofed buildings." All nations rejoice with Khotan Awakening a dream that has slept for a thousand years, Yotkan Ancient City collaborates with Beijing Wuwei Vision, a renowned domestic cultural tourism performance team, to create Xinjiang's first immersive sensory performance, "The Harmonious Music of Khotan." This experience offers "two cultures in one city, unique charm on every street," presenting daytime "performances from all directions" and nighttime "tales of the ancient city," vividly recounting the epic historical saga of ancient Khotan. Daytime tour "Ten Directions, Hundred Performances" revives the ancient Khotan marketplace atmosphere Yotkan Ancient City gathers the rustic charm of millennia, hiding more daytime stories in every corner of the ancient town, waiting to be discovered. By day, beneath the exotic white architecture, as the drum signals echo from the watchtowers, the ancient Jade Gate of Khotan slowly opens. Sogdian merchants, caravan traders, and street vendors weave through bustling alleys brimming with distinctive Central Asian character. These figures from across the centuries, carrying their wares, gather together with joyful hospitality, extending warm Xinjiang-style ceremonial welcomes to all visitors... Night tour of "Ancient City Tales" - immerse yourself in millennia of history When exotic architecture meets nighttime performances, Yotkan's story gains another chapter. Stepping into the ancient city at dusk isn't time travel—it's a return to a thousand years ago. As the theme song "Millennium" plays, savor street food at the bazaar and share drinks with veterans while exchanging life stories... Illuminated by the bonfire, the Garuda spreads its wings and soars toward the highest point of Sumi Castle, cutting through the long night. A lively Mesirep dance celebrates prosperity, making the ancient city shimmer with vibrant life.China · Hotan County

Panlong Ancient Road is a mountain road on the Pamir Plateau that has become popular in recent years, also known as the Wacha Highway, spanning a total length of approx. 36 km. It was originally built to facilitate travel for local farmers and herdsmen on the plateau: the mountain is made of loose sandy rock, making it impossible to build tunnels or bridges, so the road had to wind up along the mountain ridges following the terrain, climbing from an altitude of approx. 3,000 m to over 4,000 m. With over 600 S-bends layered on top of each other, it looks like a black dragon coiled among the mountains when viewed from the air, and is known by locals as the "Sky Road of the Plateau." The entire road is divided into two sections: Big Panlong and Small Panlong. The first section, Big Panlong, features large, sparse bends, with parking areas and viewing platforms along the way, perfect for stopping to overlook the entire mountain road. The subsequent Small Panlong section has dense bends, with a series of nearly 180-degree hairpin turns arranged neatly, offering a thrilling visual and driving experience.China · Tashkurgan

老城景区喀赞其街 is the core historical and cultural district of the Shache Old City Scenic Area. The main street is over 700m long, connecting over 200 traditional buildings and residences. Earthy yellow walls, colorful wooden doors, and crisscrossing alleys unfold layer by layer, making it a concentrated area where the original style of Shache Old City has been preserved following "restoration that maintains the original style" renovations. Most of the shops along the street are copperware stores, where the clinking sound of copper pots being chiseled and the calls of food vendors rise and fall; besides copperware, there are also shops selling folk handicrafts and agricultural products, as well as local delicacies like roasted buns, wheat rice, and pilaf. The Atamires Handicraft Shop on the street has been passed down to the seventh generation of coppersmiths, where visitors can customize copperware and, with the shop owner's hands-on guidance, hammer one out themselves to take home.Shache · 60.7km from Yecheng

Yecheng Martyrs Cemetery is located on the north side of Kamang Highway in the eastern suburbs of Yecheng County, Xinjiang, about 6 kilometers away from the county seat. It was built to commemorate the combat heroes and revolutionary martyrs who heroically sacrificed their lives to safeguard the territorial integrity of the motherland and the interests of the people in the 1962 Sino-Indian border self-defense counterattack war. If you pass by here, you can come and take a look, commemorate the martyrs and inspire patriotic enthusiasm.

There was a staff member inside who offered free explanations every now and then. For those unfamiliar with the area, the explanations of the rugs on the walls were what truly conveyed the maker's heartfelt intentions and blessings. However, there were too many people attending prayer, and in the end, it was too hot to explore much.

Embark on a journey to the Pamirs, fulfilling a promise to snow-capped mountains and lakes. The vastness of this plateau cannot be fully captured by photographs. The G314 highway offers breathtaking scenery: the crystal-clear White Sand Lake, the Karakol Lake reflecting the Muztagh Ata peak, creating a dreamlike scene; driving along the Panlong Ancient Road, one understands the meaning of "after all the detours, the road ahead is smooth"; strolling through the Golden Grasslands, watching cattle and sheep graze on the meadows, one feels the vibrant atmosphere of the Tajik Plateau. The journey encompasses Gobi Desert, glaciers, meadows, and lakes, both desolate and gentle. A reminder for future travelers: be sure to obtain your border permit in advance; the high altitude brings strong winds and low temperatures, so don't skimp on warm clothing; as the altitude increases, avoid strenuous activity and proceed according to your physical capabilities. Only after visiting the Pamirs can one truly understand the charm of Southern Xinjiang. The vast landscape makes this trip worthwhile and memorable.

The name of this attraction is a bit confusing; it's actually located in Tashkurgan County, specifically at the Stone City and Golden Grassland. The entire attraction can be completed in about two hours. This is an easily overlooked spot, but it's highly recommended. Absolutely recommended! It's right in the county town. A fantastic location for viewing the reflection of Muztagh Ata Peak. We arrived in the morning. The Golden Grassland offers excellent views of the snow-capped mountains or the reflection of Stone City. Drones are prohibited from flying nearby due to the presence of an airport.

Panlong Ancient Road, located in Wacha Township, Tashkurgan County, Kashgar Prefecture, is a renowned scenic highway on the Pamir Plateau. The 36-kilometer-long road winds its way through the Kunlun Mountains, featuring over 600 S-shaped and U-shaped bends, resembling a giant dragon lying across the landscape, hence its name. The road's altitude rises from 3000 meters to 4216 meters, a drop of over 1200 meters. Built along the contours of the mountains, the road is tightly wound and intricate, offering breathtaking views at every turn. Looking around, vast valleys, rolling hills, and distant snow-capped peaks create a magnificent panorama of the plateau. Originally a rural path, the road was paved with asphalt in 2019, greatly facilitating travel for local villagers. The slogan at the exit, "Having traversed all the winding roads today, from now on, life will be smooth sailing," imbues the road with a beautiful meaning, making it a unique and memorable destination for countless self-driving travelers.
