For convenience, I chose this organized trip to make a quick visit to these parts of the Pamirs. There are two stops to visit the two lakes, each lasting an hour. The rest of the trip is a transfer with the usual service stops, but it couldn't be otherwise given the distances involved and the type of connecting road. In any case, it's worth it. I'm Italian and was the only non-Chinese person on the trip, but using my phone's translator was no problem. I obtained the border pass the day before, and the tour organizers contacted me with all the necessary information. Overall, highly recommended for anyone wanting a quick visit to these parts.โ

I booked the tour online through Trip.com, and Maggie contacted me within an hour to confirm the tour details. Maggie was particularly helpful and accommodating, as we wanted to tailor and add Mount Muztagh Glacier to our itinerary. We received our driver's information the night before our day tour โ providing peace of mind. On the day, Mr. Jiao, our guide, was hospitable and attentive to customers. He has excellent knowledge and was attentive throughout. When we set off, he bought drinking water early in the morning. When we arrived at Mount Muztagh with high alpity, he went to buy an oxygen tank again. When we had some mild high-altition, he carefully slowed down the car. We were very satisfied with the whole tour. Mr. Jiao was warm and hospitable, and very attentive to his customers. He was very knowledgeable and considerate of everything along the way. He bought drinking water for us well in advance. When we experienced altitude sickness at Muztagh Ata, he bought oxygen cylinders. He carefully reminded us when we had mild altitude sickness and slowed down the car; he's a very thoughtful person. We were very satisfied with the entire trip, including the journey through Baisha Mountain, Muztagh Ata, and the Pamir Plateau ๐๐ผ, and it was full of laughter. ๐โ

Stated it is foreigner friendly but the guide was only speaking mandarin. Not gonna learn anything here but at least we got to see Pamir plateau and White Sand Lake, I guess. Anyway, they wonโt stop for Mustagh or red canyon, just passing through which was quite dissapointed because we expecting to get to Mustagh. Understandable probably due to short of time but oh well. It is still a nice trip, I guess. They squeeze us in in a very last minute.โ

I participated alone. There were six participants in total, and we traveled in a seven-seater van. The van was spacious, and there was ample space for rest. As I was the first to be picked up, I sat in the front passenger seat, and the scenery unfolding before me was breathtaking everywhere. The seats were comfortable enough to sleep in, and there were USB charging ports in the back.
The entrance tickets to the Baisha Mountain North Shore/Baisha Lake Scenic Area and Karakol Lake were included in the price. I received a message saying "We've arrived" around 7:40 AM, and we departed around 7:50 AM. Around 8:20 AM, we picked up the other participants at a hotel a little outside the city center. This was earlier than the 8:30 AM time stated on the booking screen, so I recommend checking the message the night before and preparing early. The return trip was scheduled for around 9:00 PM, but we arrived back at the old town at 7:58 PM, earlier than planned.
The scenery was best from the north shore of Baisha Lake. The south shore was crowded, and while there were plenty of restaurants for lunch, it wasn't a place to relax and enjoy the view. While Karakol Lake offered decent scenery, it didn't particularly impress me.
At the border checkpoints, I simply handed my passport and permit to the driver without getting out of the vehicle; the driver presented them to the officer for checks. Only the return checkpoint required getting out, but it was quick, with almost no waiting time. I obtained the border pass myself. Going to the office first thing in the morning the day before is sufficient.
There was no guide, only the driver. He gave me some explanations about the scenery from the passenger seat, but I couldn't understand everything because it was in Chinese. Toilets are available on the south shore of Baisha Lake, at Hongshan, at the drive-in on the return trip, and at Karakol Lake. There are Western-style toilets, but they are not as clean as those in Europe or America, so be aware of this if it's a concern.
Even in October, it's cold, so be sure to pack warm clothing. 1 liter of water and one bottle of oxygen were enough for me. Drinks and skewers are available at every location. Considering the price, I think it's excellent value for money.๎ฅ
