Hongyadong commercial street is located on Cangbai Road of Yuzhong District, Chongqing City. It is at the intersection where the Yangtze River and the Jialing River meet. Most of its buildings are “Diaojialou” style, which reflects traditional architectural features of Bayu. It is a great place to go if you want to check out the old streets of Chongqing, appreciate the two rivers, or try local cuisines. At the same time, it is home to a bustling night scene, making it a fascinating attraction for photographers.Chongqing · 2.6km from downtown

Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street

7.9
4.7/5
5.6k reviews
Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is the long-established core commercial district in Chongqing, located on the Yuzhong Peninsula. Centered around the Monument to the People's Liberation at its heart, it extends along several streets including Minquan Road, Minzu Road, Zourong Road, and Bayi Road. The monument is an octagonal tower-shaped structure, originally built to commemorate the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and later renamed the Monument to the People's Liberation. Its four-sided clock at the top makes it a highly recognizable landmark in Chongqing, and most travelers visiting here take photos in front of it. Shopping and food are the two main themes of the pedestrian street: the area around the monument is densely packed with shopping malls and traditional department stores. When tired from shopping, visitors can turn into Bayi Road Snack Street, where sour and spicy noodles, small glutinous rice balls, and wontons line the street, allowing them to sample all of Chongqing's snacks while strolling. Hidden around the commercial district are Luohan Temple and Nengren Temple on Zhonghua Road, two ancient temples nestled among skyscrapers, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city. At night, the pedestrian street takes on a different vibe: building screens and neon lights illuminate the area, and the square in front of the monument becomes a popular spot for night photography. Every New Year's Eve, many locals gather under the monument to listen to the New Year's bell and count down together—a tradition that has continued for years. The crowd is enormous that night, so those wishing to experience the atmosphere should plan ahead. A short 15-minute walk from the monument leads to Hongya Cave, making it ideal to combine both locations into a nightlife route.Chongqing · 2.4km from downtown

Ciqikou Town is located beside Chongqing city. It used to serve as a goods unloading dock. The town has more than a dozen streets and it is filled with ancient Ming Dynasty architectures. You can walk along ancient paths, taste local food and snacks, and chill in a teahouse to feel the ambience of old Chongqing. As the town is very close to the urban area, it is a popular attraction for urbanites' recreational activities. Mao Xuewang, Qianzhangpi and salt-and-pepper peanuts are the three specialties in the town. The "Chen Fried Dough Twist" is also a must-try when you are there.Chongqing · 10km from downtown

Yangtze River Three Gorges

7.5
4.8/5
264 reviews
The Yangtze River Three Gorges is a grand canyon formed by the Yangtze cutting through the Wushan Mountains. It stretches nearly 200 km from White Emperor City in Fengjie, Chongqing, in the west to Nanjin Pass in Yichang, Hubei, in the east, connecting three gorges—Qutang, Wuxia, and Xiling—from west to east. This stretch of river has served as a vital waterway between Ba and Chu since ancient times. Li Bai's verse "Departing at dawn from White Emperor City veiled in colorful clouds" depicts the eastbound journey from the gorge entrance, while Du Fu left his famous line "The endless Yangtze rolls on and on" in Fengjie. Each gorge has distinct characteristics, often summarized as "majestic Qutang, graceful Wuxia, and perilous Xiling." Qutang Gorge spans only about 8 km but is renowned for its sheer cliffs. At Kuimen, its entrance, the river abruptly narrows to less than 100 m between knife-cut bluffs—a scene featured on the back of China's fifth series CNY 10 banknote. Ancient plank road holes and Wind Box Gorge's hanging coffins remain visible on the cliffs. Wuxia Gorge extends over 40 km like a winding gallery, with the Twelve Peaks lining its banks. Goddess Peak stands elegantly photogenic in morning mist. Xiling Gorge was once notorious for rapids, but the Three Gorges Dam has transformed its upper reaches into a "high gorge with placid waters." Riverside landmarks like White Emperor City and Huangling Temple are worth visiting. Cruising is the best way to experience the gorges. Long-distance ships sail downstream, while short round-trip boats shuttle through key sections. Watching peaks drift by from the deck offers a more immersive perspective than shore viewing. Morning mist often creates ideal conditions for photographing Kuimen and Goddess Peak. Cliffside plank road relics and inscriptions may flash by during the cruise—keep an eye out to avoid missing them.Yichang · 6.9km from downtown

Three Gorges Museum

4.6/5
1.1k reviews
The Three Gorges Museum is located atChongqing people's squareTo the west stands a comprehensive history and art museum showcasing Bayu culture, Three Gorges heritage, and wartime history, housing over 100,000 artifacts including ancient human specimens, Three Gorges archaeological finds, Bayu bronzes, Han dynasty relics, southwestern ethnic artifacts, and historical calligraphy, paintings, and porcelain. The architecture itself merits attention: the funnel-shaped dome above resembles a giant dew-collecting plate, symbolizing "the Three Gorges' waters descending from heaven"; expansive blue glass curtain walls represent water while rustic sandstone facades evoke mountains, echoing Chongqing's mountainous riverside terrain. Four permanent exhibitions form the core: "Magnificent Three Gorges," "Ancient Bayu," "Chongqing: Path of a City," and "Wartime Years." "Magnificent Three Gorges" displays numerous artifacts from the reservoir area, notably the awe-inspiring Southern Song dynasty cliff inscription "Ode to the imperial virtue of Zhongxing" relocated intact from Qutang Gorge; the 360-degree film "Great Three Gorges" in the lobby preserves pre-flood landscapes and culture. "Ancient Bayu" traces 3,000 years of civilization through Stone and Bronze Age relics; "Chongqing: Path of a City" chronicles urban evolution from treaty ports to industrialization and municipal status via artifacts and vintage photos; "Wartime Years" recreates Chongqing's resilience as China's provisional capital through historical records, a sound-and-light simulation of the bombing raids, and a restored air-raid tunnel tragedy scene. Thematic galleries are equally substantial: the Bayu Han dynasty sculpture hall gathers stone que gate towers, pictorial stones/bricks, and pottery figurines, featuring the towering Eastern Han Wuyang stone que and the expressive drumming storyteller figurine; the "Bayu divine bird" red pottery artifact from Fengdu spreads its wings proudly. Exhibits on historical currency, southwestern ethnic customs, calligraphy/paintings, and porcelain unfold regional life through monetary, ethnic, and artistic lenses. Notable treasures include the Shang dynasty three-goat zun vessel, the Warring States tiger-handled chunyu dubbed "king of chunyu," the Fuling bird-shaped zun, and the approx. 2-million-year-old Wushan hominid jawbone fossil.Chongqing · 150m from downtown

Zhazi Cave, located at the foot of Gele Mountain in Chongqing, was a famous site of the Communist Revolution. With mountains on three sides, the location was well-protected. It was once a small coal mine. It was known for a dearth of coal and an abundance of coal slag. In 1938 the Kuomintang rebuilt the mine as a secret prison, where Communist revolutionaries were imprisoned and tortured. One of the most famous martyrs of this prison is Jiang Zhuyun (also known as Sister Jiang). The prison inside Zhazi Cave is divided into an interior section and an exterior section. The interior section includes 16 cells for male inmates and 2 cells for female inmates. The exterior section was used as an office and also had torture rooms.Chongqing · 11.7km from downtown

The Two Rivers Ferry is absolutely fantastic! The 15 yuan ticket is incredibly cost-effective! Here's a great route for families with kids: After visiting Jiefangbei and Kuixinglou, see Hongyadong during the day. If you're traveling with a 6-year-old and don't want to brave the crowds at Hongyadong at night, the stilted buildings during the day are just as beautiful. Afterward, take the Two Rivers Ferry to Danzishi, disembark, and explore Danzishi Old Street, Nanbin Road, and Xiahaoli. Then, take the light rail/bus or taxi back. The whole route is smooth and relaxing. The boat ride is novel and fun, and the kids especially loved it, remaining enthusiastic about exploring the shopping streets afterwards. At the pier, there's a large bowl of freshly cut watermelon for 10 yuan – watch it being cut right in front of you! It's sweet and refreshing. I highly recommend this route for families!

My stay in Chongqing was fantastic! The hotel boasts a superb location, within walking distance of Eling No. 2 Factory and Liziba Viewpoint, making sightseeing incredibly convenient. The rooms were spotless and bright, the bedding was soft and comfortable, and the amenities were complete. The free parking was a great convenience for travelers with cars. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in quick and easy, and patiently answering all my questions. Overall, it offered excellent value for money and is a top choice for any trip. I would definitely choose this hotel again next time.

As the spotlight fell, red silk billowed from both sides of the stage, instantly enveloping the entire theater in a profound sense of history. When the actors playing revolutionaries, armed with wooden rifles, charged forward amidst the smoke and fire, an elderly man in the front row quietly wiped a tear from his eye. From the gunshots by the river, to that declaration that transcends over seventy years, every shout resonated with the audience's hearts. In the final scene, as the national flag was unfurled, the entire theater spontaneously erupted in applause. That deafening roar wasn't stage sound effects; it was the most direct empathy from everyone present for that groundbreaking era. This wasn't a distant story confined to books; it was the real, tangible footsteps of our forefathers.

Once you get there, you can buy a bus ticket for 20 yuan. It's a loop. If the weather is nice, you can walk around and take your time to see everything. Like the Bai Mansion, the Zhazidong Concentration Camp commemorates revolutionary martyrs. It's a place to see the path you came from and remember them forever.
