The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area
The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area is located in the Xiling Gorge section of the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei. It is a scenic attraction built around the Three Gorges hydro project, covering over ten square kilometers. Currently, it offers travelers three viewing spots: Tanzi Ridge, the 185 viewing platform, and the river closure memorial park. The dam crest itself is not open to travelers, so visits primarily revolve around these three attractions. Tanzi Ridge is the highest accessible point in the dam area, named for its jar-shaped summit viewing platform resembling an overturned jar. It also served as the survey site for the dam's initial location selection. From the ridge top, visitors can overlook the Three Gorges Project in its entirety—the dam, power station, and twin five-level ship locks are all visible. The five lock chambers cascade down the mountainside, earning the nickname "Fourth Gorge of the Yangtze." The park displays engineering artifacts like ancient riverbed stones, river closure rocks, and foundation stones from the dam site, complemented by model exhibits that help visitors intuitively understand the origins and development of this mega-project. The 185 observation platform is located on the left bank of the dam. It gets its name from sharing the same elevation of 185 m as the dam crest. The tour takes approximately 3.5 hours. From the visitor transfer center, take a sightseeing bus to Tanziling. After descending Tanziling, proceed to the 185 Park, where you can take an electric cart or walk. From the 185 Park, take a sightseeing bus to the Interception Memorial Park. Finally, take a sightseeing bus to the Miniature Landscape Park (the park's exit), concluding the tour.

This time, I took my parents, both in their eighties, on a trip and chose the Yichang Jiaoyun Group package. Thankfully, it was a premium itinerary; the tour guide contacted us the day before departure to make the arrangements. Our guide, Mr. Wu, was patient and attentive, providing a car pick-up, a private entrance to our VIP seats on the fourth floor, and even fruit and snacks. He explained each attraction and helped us take photos at the most beautiful spots, making us feel very safe and secure. At the Three Gorges Dam Museum, our guide, Ms. Ziyi, was incredibly professional, answering all our questions fluently and giving us a deeper understanding of the engineering and management. A salute to everyone who has contributed to the Three Gorges Dam! Yichang is wonderful; we'll definitely come back! 💕

This was amazing, we loved the scenery, however, thete wad cpnfusion when we arrived to the gorge area. we did not understand we needed to buy a chairlift ticket. The tickets were 30 kuai per person, but purchasing was all in Chinese so the security guy did our registration. I agree with some of the other reviews, the climbs and descents were steep. But, it was breath-taking scenery. we loved our day.

The scenery was beautiful, especially after the rain, like walking through a painting; the tour guide at the Three Gorges Dam was beautiful, had a lovely voice, and provided thorough explanations; the young man who accompanied us was professional, dedicated, and provided detailed explanations and made excellent arrangements! Highly recommended!

The Three Gorges Waterfall experience is excellent. The waterfall has a large drop and is very impressive. A unique feature is that you can walk under the waterfall and immerse yourself in the water mist. August, the height of summer, is the best time to visit, as it's cool and refreshing. It's recommended to bring your own raincoat if you visit in summer; they can be purchased at the entrance of the scenic area at a reasonable price. I haven't experienced it in winter, so I can't comment on that yet.

Be sure to choose a sunny day with blue skies and white clouds for your boat trip! The Changyang Qingjiang Gallery Scenic Area (5A) is definitely worth a visit! A walk around Wuluo Zhongli Mountain and an experience at Xianren Cave are both worthwhile! The boat tour is very comfortable and pleasant! The scenery on both banks is picturesque, with clear water, green mountains, and blue skies complementing each other perfectly! A stunning landscape gallery! Perfect for seniors and those traveling with children! A truly sacred place!
