It's wonderful to get to know Reims this way. Lots of historical information about the city's origins, the various architectural styles, and the unique buildings. It's a great starting point for exploring the city's peaceful atmosphere. A friendly guide who took his time.

It was a glorious day of sunshine so we could drink in the beautiful valleys and villages of the champagne region. We visited Cordon Didierlaurent touring the production process and sampling their Grand Reserve and rose champagne along with a sweet wine. Another short drive found us at the burial site of Dom Perignon and nearby Dom Ruinart. We followed on to breathtaking views of the valley overlooking the vines disappearing down the slopes of the hills. Finally we landed at our final wine stop at Picart Thiout. We sampled several of their wines along with a great overview of their production facility. Amazingly different from the first vineyard it gave a different perspective on approaches to champagne making. Our guide for the day, Jules was brilliant and bubbly (no pun intended). A local who exuded authenticity, she took us through each segment of the tour patiently explaining what we were seeing and answering questions we had. She even organised a restaurant for us that evening. I'd highly recommend this as it contrasts the large production houses in Reims and gives one a glimpse at the some 16,000 small producers in the region and the challenges they face. Nonetheless, they produce beautiful, good value wines.

The champagne tour was lovely in a sort of an intimate setting in a private van with few others we didn’t know who live in Luxembourg, Paris and California (but from Italy and California). The tour guide knew good English and was from the area, there for, very knowledgeable! It is like he is definitely a friend of the Champagne Houses, and they know him well! I fully expected the champagne house managers to give us the tours but no, our tour guide did this which was an amazing testament to the sort of lovely tour guide he was! He took us to the Dom Perignon church where he was buried, the vintage grape plots nearby which had a weird mist phenomenon which froze. It was gorgeous! We then proceeded to the 2 champagne houses (even family owned, small business). We had a fabulous tour! Definitely must see and must do for anyone visiting!
