Melonie was amazing, no complaints at all. Even though the weather was not ideal, she kept her cool, and was very nice to everyone. The meeting point was easy to find, she sent very thoughtful instructions on WhatsApp before our visit. We connected on WeChat so if someone got lost they could call her and if we had any questions she answered patiently. She sends additional info on what to see, where to go, where to eat etc.

This guided tour of the Forbidden City was an excellent experience. The guide possessed solid knowledge, not only recounting historical anecdotes but also focusing on explaining ancient architectural details: the eaves and ridge beasts, glazed tile components, and palace layout, all corresponding to the auspicious beasts on the rooftops we saw, clearly explaining the architectural hierarchy. The tour route was well-planned, centered on the three main halls along the central axis while also covering details, avoiding a rushed pace. The guide used accessible language, patiently answering questions and imbuing the otherwise impersonal palaces with stories, allowing us to understand the Eastern architectural wisdom beneath the red walls and yellow tiles. The Forbidden City is vast, and walking the entire way would be physically demanding; the guided tour included appropriate breaks. Without a guide, it's easy to just skim the surface, only seeing the exteriors. With a guided tour, one can truly understand the Forbidden City and experience the weight of 600 years of history.
