203 HighlandsMany Japanese people know the 203 Highlands from stories such as ``Saka no Ue no Kumo.''This highland is named because it is 203 meters above sea level.During the Russo-Japanese War, it was also the site of a fierce battle for the port of Port Arthur, where the Russian Navy had a base.During the decisive battle, more than 10,000 people died on both sides.At the top of the mountain stands a bullet-shaped memorial tower, with the kanji 203 inscribed with the words ``Erreishan'' written by Maresuke Nogi.It means "the mountain where your spirit rests."The view from the hill is also worth seeing.East Geikwan MountainA fortress built over four years by the Russian army, said to be the strongest in the world at the time!One of the most brutal battles of the Russo-Japanese War took place, and the remains of the fierce battle can still be seen on the concrete defensive walls of Dongjiguan Mountain.It was about 10 days after the Japanese army captured Plateau 203 that they captured Dongyikumsan Mountain.Lushun stationStarting in 1898, Russia leased the Liaodong Peninsula from the Qing Dynasty, extended the East Qing Railway from Harbin to the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, and sought to build Lushun as a military port and Dalian as a commercial port. In 1917, Japan converted it into the Kanto Governor's Office Museum. In 1945, it was taken over by the Soviet Red Army, and handed over to China in 1951. It was first called the Lushun Museum of History and Culture, and then in 1954. Historical artifacts have been exhibited since 2010.The exhibit area is 1,700 square meters, and in addition to general cultural relics, particularly valuable items include seven corpses (mummies) from the Tang Dynasty excavated at Tuluban in Xinjiang.This mummy was brought back to Japan by Tachibana Zuichō of the Otani Expedition in the early 20th century. He had twelve mummies. However, after that, the head priest of Honganji Temple, Kozui Otani, who had sponsored the ``Otani Expedition'', took responsibility for the suspicion incident that occurred at Honganji Temple and resigned as head priest, and the huge amount of excavated items that Tachibana brought back were also scattered. I was forced to do so.As for the mummies, each one has had a strange fate, but it is recorded that ``10 mummies are kept in the Lushun Museum and two are kept in the National Museum of Korea.''
