Reviews: Nagoya to Shirakawa-go & Hida Takayama: UNESCO Heritage 1-Day Tour

The overall itinerary was somewhat rushed due to Japanese driver service time regulations. The Takayama leg of the trip was particularly tight, mainly because completing a meal and a full visit to the Takayama Jinya (traditional Japanese houses) within two hours was quite strenuous. Two hours was more than enough for the Shirakawa-go Gassho-zukuri village. The tour guide was very professional and nice, and his explanations were quite interesting. The group members came from all over the world, with mainland Chinese tourists making up about 10%, making it a very international team.

The itinerary was well-planned, and the Chinese-speaking tour guide was excellent. Highly recommended.

The tour allows you to explore the various location within a day. Love the scenic view at takayama. Guide is superb she could speak English, Japanese and Chinese.

All the places are great to explore and really nice. Just my opinion, the tour guide should wait for all of us to get down from the bus first then he can started to explain about the place not when we reach down to him, he is done. And we arrived shirakawago around 3:15pm and the last shuttle bus around 3:40pm to observatory. So it is not enough time as we need to walk a bit to a pickup point for shuttle bus. All the three places are so crowded but still nice to explore

A very enjoyable trip. I was initially reluctant to join a large group tour, but after checking the transportation options and finding them inconvenient and expensive to hire a car, I opted for a group tour. The result was surprisingly smooth and comfortable. Our tour guide, Xiao Liu, was very patient and responsible. We were free to explore after disembarking, but she diligently explained the sights and routes on the bus in both Chinese and English. The bus was very punctual and didn't wait for anyone. There were no shops along the way; everything was voluntary. The people on the bus came from various countries, and everyone was very disciplined. Suitable for: People with high energy levels who want a quick tour and don't need to plan too much, and for those who prioritize safety. For those with lower energy levels, a nice coffee shop with a good view to experience the local culture is also a good option. Not suitable for: People who want to take great photos, those who want to stay in one place for too long, or those who can't tolerate long bus rides. The bus ride was very smooth, and motion sickness was rare. You can wear an eye mask to rest on the bus; the tour guide will only remind you of precautions when you're almost at your destination. Takayama City: If you walk quickly, besides the morning market, you can also visit Hie Shrine, where you can draw fortune slips; the scenery is also quite beautiful. (You must be very fit and have a strong sense of time.) Shirakawa-go: The scenery is beautiful; I was lucky enough to see a rainbow. If you walk fast, you can go to the observation deck, queue to buy pudding, and quickly tour the wooden houses. One last small suggestion: I hope the tour guide can start timing from when you get off the bus, or set the time a few minutes later on the bus. If getting off the bus takes a few minutes, returning early will also take a few minutes, resulting in less time for sightseeing. So, unless there are unexpected circumstances, I hope the timing can be set a little later for a more comfortable experience. That's all.
