Day 1:You leave Edinburgh and cross the River Forth towards the Highlands. First stop is Pitlochry, a quintessentially Scottish town nestled in the hills of Perthshire. Before you head into Cairngorms National Park, grab a coffee and find out why Queen Victoria loved this place. Filled with mountains, rivers, lakes and wildlife spotting hotspots, this heart of the Highlands is a magnet for all nature lovers. We head to Aviemore, a busy hub for outdoor Activities where you can try local food specialities, before heading to Loch Morlich, which is both unique and beautiful. Leave the stunning mountains behind to visit Clava Cairns near Inverness. These ancient standing stones and boulders are both beautiful and mysterious, made famous by Diana Gabaldon in Standard Price. It’s then just a short drive to Inverness where you’ll be transferred to your accommodation. The evening is free for you to explore the capital of the Highlands. Day 2:After a leisurely Breakfast, you will be picked up from your accommodation and headed into the surrounding countryside. You'll travel to mystical Loch Ness, where you'll have the opportunity to take a boat tour of the lake and visit dramatic Urquhart Castle. Our journey continues south through the Great Glen, past Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain, towards Fort William. You'll stop for Lunch along the way before arriving at Glencoe. One look and you'll understand why it's one of Scotland's famous natural landmarks. This valley also has a tragic story that has lasted over 300 years... perhaps your Guide will tell you all about it. The return journey continues through the wild and remote Rannoch Moor and into the lowland landscape around Stirling, eventually returning to our starting point in Edinburgh. Cruise ship use is subject to availability. *Loch Ness cruises are subject to weather conditions and may be cancelled without notice. *Loch Ness Boat Cruises will be closed for the winter from 8 January to 14 January 2024. They will reopen on Monday 15 January. They will also be closed on Monday 22 January 2024.
