Day 1Gaze at the mountain horizon in the West HighlandsStroll through the handsome harbour town of ObanYou'll travel north past Stirling Castle into the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park area. You'll pass the Standard Price mountains of the West Highlands and the pretty 18th-century whitewashed town of Inveraray, home to the Campbell Clan and the Duke of Argyll. The afternoon will be spent in the heart of Argyll before arriving in the busy town of Oban for your two-night stay. Day 2Discover the history of Celtic ChristianitySee one of Scotland’s unique geological wonders at Fingal’s CaveToday you'll get up early and take the ferry to the Isle of Mull to explore its dramatic coastline and wild beauty. You'll take a small ferry to the island of Iona, the birthplace of Celtic Christianity and the ancient burial site of the Scottish kings. Here you can tour the historic abbey and see the intricately carved crosses in the courtyard, or explore the rocky headlands and sandy coves. You'll also have the opportunity to take a boat trip to the island of Staffa, where you can admire the dramatic basalt columns immortalized by Mendelssohn in the Hebridean Overture. Afterwards, you’ll take the ferry back to Oban for your second night. 3rd dayArrived in Plockton, a small town in the "tropics" of ScotlandBe in awe of the majestic slopes of GlencoeYou travel along the west coast through the Appin region, passing the impregnable Castle Stalker. Next, you head to the magnificent Glencoe, one of Scotland's famous natural landmarks. This beautiful area is known for its steep slopes and photographic peaks. Your driver- Guide may reveal to you the valley's tragic history spanning more than 300 years. You'll then pass through the shadow of Fort William and Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the British Isles at 1,344 meters. We continue through the Great Glen, a natural fault in the earth's crust that runs through Scotland. From here, you travel north to the picturesque fishing village of Plockton. You will be transferred to your accommodation in the early evening. *If your trip departs after 1 April 2024, you will stay overnight in Plockton or Balmacara. Day 4 Travel through the legendary Skye landscapeLearn about the legends and battles that shaped the island's cultureToday is a very flexible day on the Isle of Skye. Depending on weather conditions, your driver- Guide will use their local knowledge to decide the best day for the Group. You might climb along the Trotternish Ridge to Quiraing and enjoy spectacular views, or you can take in the scenery at Loch Corruisk or drive through the Red Cuillin to the small village of Elgol. We will drop you off at your accommodation in Plockton later in the evening, leaving you free to explore the village. *If your trip departs after 1 April 2024, you will stay overnight in Plockton or Balmacara. Day 5Take photos at the spectacular Eilean Donan CastleTry to spot the Loch Ness monsterYou will depart from your accommodation and take a short drive to the famous Eilean Donan Castle. You then head east, taking in stunning views of Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail. You'll continue to Loch Ness for Lunch and a possible sighting of the 'Loch Ness Monster'. Your tour passes through the Grampian Mountains, along Loch Laggan and past Dalwhinnie, home to Scotland's top whisky distilleries. In Perthshire you'll stop to rest before returning to Edinburgh via Perth and the Firth of Forth.
