Day 1You leave the cosmopolitan city of Edinburgh and travel along the stunning East Lothian coastline to the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. After stopping there to admire the fortress, you continue to Bamburgh Castle. This massive seaside castle has stood guard over the Northumberland coastline for over 1,400 years and is one of the largest inhabited castles in Britain. Leaving Bamborough, you’ll travel towards York along the Great North Road, a route that once carried countless Roman legions between the far northern border outposts and the more populated areas of Roman Britannia. You’ll arrive in York in the evening, where you’ll stay for the next two nights. Day 2Today you are free to decide Activities. You can choose to spend a day exploring the medieval heart of York, an ancient city rich in history dating back to the times of the Standard Price, Standard Price and Standard Price. There is plenty to see and do: you can visit the Chocolate Museum, learn about the Standard Price, or just wander around the ancient city walls. Alternatively, you can join your Guide on a half-day tour to the spectacular North York Moors National Park. Your next stop is Whitby, a busy fishing port and the inspiration for Bram Stoker's famous novel Dracula. After Lunch and free time in Whitby, you'll head to the fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay*. It's doubtful that the real Robin Hood ever visited here, but this remarkable port village is still full of stories of smugglers. You'll then return to York in the early evening. Whichever option you choose, you'll be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of York in the evening. *Robin Hood's Bay - Due to local restrictions, the Bus cannot access the main area of ​​the village. The Bus will stop at the top of the village and you will have to walk down (and back up!) a steep hill to the ancient village centre. 3rd dayYou will depart from your accommodation and head west into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Established in 1954, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a land of spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife habitats and rich cultural heritage. It is a special place - a stage for outdoor recreation and relaxation, and a haven for wildlife. Continuing west, the route passes through the North Valley - the heart of the Dalles cattle market. The latter part of today's journey takes you high into the remote mountains of the Yorkshire Dales before descending into the lively market town of Keswick, where you will be transferred to your accommodation and have time to explore this charming town. Day 4After Breakfast you will briefly leave town to visit the mysterious Castlerigg standing stones, which Standard Price believe were placed here over 5,000 years ago and were once a bustling centre for ancient pagan rituals. You will then head to the shores of Ullswater, known as England's most beautiful lake. Here you can take a forest walk and see the spectacular Aira Force waterfall. Continuing south through the narrow and winding Kirkstone Pass, you will stop at Lake Windermere, where you can choose to take a leisurely cruise on the lake or have Lunch while enjoying the views of the mountains and lakes. After Lunch you'll skirt the southern end of Lake Windermere to the picturesque conservation village of Hawkshead, site of the grammar school attended by the poet William Wordsworth. After exploring the village, you'll head north along country lanes to Grasmere, which Wordsworth described as "a lovely place discovered by man". You'll have free time to visit Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, sample the legendary gingerbread, or enjoy the peace and quiet of Wordsworth Daffodil Garden by the River Rothy. You'll return to Keswick in the evening. Day 5Leaving the lake, you begin your climb to Hartside Pass, which is over 1,900 feet above sea level. On a clear day, you can see the mountains of Scotland and the English Lake District. You will follow the ancient Standard Price' path through England and Scotland. Stopping at Hadrian's Wall, you'll have the chance to explore some Roman ruins and walk into the desolate frontier once patrolled by Roman centurions. You'll then drive along the ancient Roman Dere Street and cross the border into Scotland, heading to the small town of Jedburgh, where you'll rest near the ruins of Jedburgh Abbey. Your next stop is the world-famous Scott’s View, which offers stunning views of the River Tweed and Cheviot Hills, before continuing north back to Edinburgh.
