Please calculate age based on the first day of travel and select the corresponding passenger type. This pass is only valid for non-Liechtenstein/Swiss residents. To qualify, you must have resided in another country for 6 months or more and be able to provide proof of local residency (visa/residence permit) or citizenship (passport). Youth ticket: youth travelers aged 24 and under on the first day of travel can purchase a youth pass: 30% discount on the full price of the Swiss Travel Pass. Child ticket: Children aged 6 to 15 (no limit on number) can travel for free when accompanied by at least one parent (including stepparents and adoptive parents). This offer is available when booked together. Infant: Infants under 5 years old (not occupying a seat) do not require a booking and travel for free! If a seat is required, please purchase a child ticket.

Pass expiration date
 
The Swiss Travel Pass is valid for 3/4/8/15 days (duration depends on the selected ticket type), with validity from the specified start date upon purchase until 5:00 AM the day after the expiration date.
 
1. Consecutive pass: The Swiss Travel Pass will be automatically activated on the date selected at the time of booking, with no additional activation steps required. The validity period is automatically calculated from the date you selected at the time of purchase. For example, if you purchase an 8-day Swiss Travel Pass and choose to use it on Jan 1, it will be valid until 5 AM on Jan 9.
 
2. Flexible vehicle type: Must be activated within 30 days from the first usage date selected at the time of purchase, otherwise it will expire. Please activate the next required date at least 1 day in advance – same-day activation is not available.
 
Confirmation voucher
 
1. Continuous ride vehicle type: Once the booking is confirmed, it will be attached as a PDF in the confirmation email for direct use.
 
Note: You can also print the e-ticket on A4 paper for backup.
 
2. Flexible travel type: The PDF file attached to the confirmation email for your Swiss Travel Pass booking serves only as a purchase receipt, not as a valid travel ticket.
 
Passengers must activate their travel date before their first trip by visiting www.activateyourpass.com. They need to enter the booking number (Reference no. on the voucher), passenger name, and date of birth, then select the travel date. Each activated travel date will generate a corresponding valid ticket. Passengers can present this valid ticket to the conductor either via mobile device or printed copy when boarding.

A: 1. Please check if the surname and given name are in the wrong order. First Name is the given name, Last Name is the surname.
 
2. For birthdays, tap the calendar icon to select directly. The format is month/day/year (mm/dd/yyyy).

Other activation methods
 
1. Free travel route: No additional ticket purchase required. Please present your pass and passport/residence permit when the conductor checks your ticket.

Seat reservation process
 
Local and regional trains do not require seat reservations, while most high-speed trains (TGL, TGJ, CIS), international trains, scenic trains (Bernina Express, Chocolate Train, Glacier Express, Gotthard Panorama Express), and night trains (CNL, TNC, THT, ENT, PME, TRN) require paid seat reservations. Please book directly on the official website.
Change & cancellation policies
If a cancellation request is submitted before 00:00, 1 day(s) prior to the date of use, no cancellation fee will be charged.
If a cancellation request is submitted after 00:00 1 day(s) before the date of use, a fee of 100% will be charged.
If a discount is applied, the cancellation fee will be calculated based on the original price before the discount and will not exceed the amount paid.
Partial refund is not available.
Important note
  • Important: Please ensure all information is correct as bookings cannot be modified after confirmation (e.g., activation date, ticket type, passenger details).
  • If you have resided in Country A for more than 6 months but hold a passport from Country B, you may either: 1. Enter Country A as your country of residence on the payment page and present both your passport and proof of residence onboard the train; or 2. Enter Country B as your country of residence on the booking page and present your passport onboard the train.

Travel Pass eligibility

  • Children aged 0–5 can participate for free, but no separate seat is provided
  • Please enter the total number of adults, youth, and children aged 6–15 when booking.
  • Reserving a safety seat requires an additional fee
  • Children aged 6 and above but under 16 can travel for free when accompanied by at least one parent holding a Swiss Travel System ticket. Must be booked together with an adult, with one unique code per person for travel verification.
  • Child tickets cannot be purchased separately and must be booked together with adult tickets.
  • Children aged 6 and above but under 16 can enjoy a 50% discount on the original price of Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Travel Pass Flex when traveling without at least one parent.
  • Youth discount applies to youth travelers under 24 years old.
