Reviews: Quito: Old Town Highlights & Food Tour

Luís was my guide and he was very attentive, sharing knowledge of the historic district and the gastronomy of Quito. I thoroughly enjoyed the hours we spent together and I learnt a lot about the historic area and had many tastings!

We explored Quito's old town and sampled delicious food and chocolate. The Camillo Museum was also wonderful, and the experience of wearing a sun mask and dancing together was fun. I'm so grateful for the consideration given to me as a vegetarian. Our guide, Stefy, was incredibly professional, cheerful, and made our tour enjoyable. It was a satisfying and satisfying culinary experience. Thank you for the surprise gift. chulla vida.

There were many memorable things we saw and experienced. Our tour guide, Daniel, is excellent. He modified our itinerary based on what we wanted to see, adding in stops in old town for a visit to a large produce and flower market, and allowed us to spend time with a basket and lamp vendor, we ended up buying some great lamps to bring home. Most memorable of the day probably was the trip to the middle of the Earth, we were blown away by what we saw and learned. The culture and people were also memorable.

It was an incredible experience! Excellent organization! My guide was Patricio! He is an incredible person, polite, kind, and responsive! Throughout the tour, he told me so many details about the trip itself and about the country in general! We enjoyed a horseback ride, made many stops along the way to the volcano to catch that "perfect shot," and, having climbed to an altitude of 4,864 meters, took tons of photos and celebrated the ascent with warm cocoa (I recommend it to everyone!). At the end of the trip, we had a delicious lunch with a view of Cotopaxi. Thank you Patricio for this incredible experience and introduction to the country! Everything was perfect!

This trip was amazing and lead by a very professional guide named Alejandro. I had a lot of questions about this trip ahead of time, so I’m going to try to answer them here for everybody. Trip started with us being picked up at our hotel and then we stopped at a gas station for breakfast ($4-$6 per person). There were also bathrooms here and a store that you could buy snacks at for your day. Second stop was at a stand where you could buy coca tea and hoja de coca to prevent the altitude sickness. Our guide was very attentive to everybody’s needs related to altitude sickness. We then stopped at the Cotopaxi information center where we learned more about the volcano. There is a store here where you can buy last minute supplies for the trek up. We then drove up to the parking lot, where the trek to the base camp refuge is. This trek is difficult, especially considering the altitude. If you are not well acclimatized, you will experience the effects of altitude sickness. That said, you are encouraged to go at your own pace and you are not required to do the entire trek if it is not feeling good for you. The bus driver stayed with the bus, so we were able to leave our bags on the bus with him to make the trek easier. We then went to the lagoon where there were lots of birds, this normally happens before the trek, but we switched it because the volcano had a clear view. After this adventure we stopped and had lunch ($6 per person). Overall, you can make this adventure match your body’s needs if you’re concerned about being able to complete the trek. Very worthwhile and professional!
