Travel Pass eligibility
Free for children aged 0–1
An adult with a ticket can bring up to two children (aged 1–5) for free, provided they don't occupy a separate seat. A child ticket is required for any additional child.
The JR Pass is only applicable to non-Japanese passport holders with a "temporary visitor" visa and does not apply to non-Japanese passport holders with permanent residency status in Japan.
When entering Japan, please use the staff-operated automated gate or ask airport staff to stamp "Temporary Visitor" or attach a "Temporary Visitor" sticker to your passport to exchange your JR Pass. If you use the automated gate at the airport, the above stamp/sticker cannot be added to your passport.
Important information for redeeming JR West Rail Pass reserved seats
Different rail passes can be redeemed for different numbers of reserved seat tickets. For details, please see the product page.
Please check each product page for trains with seat selection options
The reserved seats for the travel pass must be exchanged separately (book at the green machine or counter).
When your designated seat reservations are used up or you haven't redeemed a designated seat ticket in advance, you can directly use this pass to board non-designated seats.
Unlimited designated seat tickets can be redeemed. Starting from the 7th ride, manual reservation is required at the ticket counter and cannot be redeemed directly at the machine.
