Reviews: From Auckland: Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House Group Tour

The guide was kind and it was a comfortable day tour. The Waitomo Caves were very beautiful and I'm glad I went. I saw some cute kiwis at the Kiwi House. They were bigger than I imagined and definitely worth a visit. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you very much.
Reviews: Waitomo Caves: Ruakuri Glowworm Cave Guided Walking Tour

From start to finish this tour was perfection! Our guide (1 pm tour on 25.February, sorry I don’t remember his name, but hoping this way you know who am referring too, so you can give him praise) was incredible and knowledgeable! He was eager to answer any and all questions and made this tour so very extra special!! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!! This was theeee best and I strongly recommend that everyone does this walking tour!!
Reviews: From Auckland: Waitomo Glowworm and Ruakuri Caves Day Tour

Both caves were cool for their uniqueness, but the Waitomo Caves were remarkable for the dazzling display along the indoor boat ride! The Mauri community preserves this site very well and makes it special. Our driver Marty was a definite impediment though. His accent was so heavy, most of us on the bus struggled to understand what he was saying! His driving was frightening at times. I am not sure he's a good fit for accomodating tourists as he isn't terribly friendly or hospitable as he was insistent on only going to places that would serve him a free meal or drink as a tour guide. This activity may be better if booked with a different agency in all honesty.
Reviews: Auckland: Waitomo Caves & Rotorua - Te Puia Small-Group Tour
Guest User2026-02-11
The excursion itself is highly recommended. We really enjoyed the destinations. The glowworm cave was very impressive, as was Te Puia. The journey is quite long, which we knew beforehand, and we always felt a bit rushed. The trip is in a modern Sprinter bus. However, we found the seats rather uncomfortable, even though everything seemed very new. The guide explained a lot during the journey, but he spoke very quickly and sometimes unclearly over the microphone. This made it a bit difficult to understand and follow for non-native speakers. All in all, it was a successful excursion.

We had a lovely ride following the route suggested and enjoyed the walk to the caves all done st our own pace so we were able to stop and look at views along the way. Richard provided us both with a flask of herbal tea and snack bars to keep us going. Highly recommend this trip
