Royal Albert Dock Liverpool

4.6/5
119 reviews
Albert Dock is an important attraction when you come to Liverpool, and it is a heritage building protected by British law. In 1846, Prince Albert praised the construction of the Dockyard at the inauguration of the Dockyard. This is one of the world's enclosed fire-resistant docks. It was once considered one of the most technologically advanced docks in the world. The port has made a great contribution. Architectural historian Berwick Nukins called Albert Dock a masterpiece of industrial architecture. However, due to the gradual decline of maritime trade, the dock has changed from prosperity to decline since the end of the 19th century, and gradually lost its original function. Due to the protection of the national industrial architectural heritage in the United Kingdom, it has been developed into a complex leisure tourist attraction integrating museums and restaurants. Here, you can go to the Merseyside Maritime Museum to explore Liverpool's maritime trade history, indulge in the artistic atmosphere of the Tate Liverpool, and even here, you and the Beatles will have a classic encounter. Travel back in time to that golden age with a trip to the Beatles Memorial. Or just take a nap on the riverside chair, there is sunshine and seabirds, it is very simple and beautiful.Liverpool · 994m from downtown

Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral is the largest church in the United Kingdom, also known as the Cathedral of Christ in Liverpool (Catherdral Church of Chris in Liverpool), which is also the fifth largest cathedral in the world. Its architectural style combines traditional Gothic and more modern monument styles. The single-tower design was an innovation at the time, with a tower height of 101 meters and a built-in clock, the third largest in the world. It is worth mentioning that this magnificent and solemn religious building was actually created by a 22-year-old young man. In 1902, Giles Gilbert Scott, who was only 22 years old, was selected in the design competition of Liverpool Cathedral. Although it also caused a lot of controversy, Scott's family background in Gothic style (father and grandfather have designed and built many church) did not let the project run aground. In 1904, King Edward laid the foundation stone and the church began to be built. However, due to the downturn of the national economy and the impact of the World War, in 1978, after a lapse of 76 years, the main part of the church was officially completed, and Queen Elizabeth II participated in the completion. ceremony. It is a pity that Scott passed away in 1960. He did not wait for the day when his works were presented, but Scott not only left this beautiful church, but also the iconic red telephone booth in London. To this day, Liverpool Cathedral is an outstanding example of church architecture in the world. It attracts many tourists every year. The beautiful stained glass in the church depicts stories about the Bible. There are also more species in the world. Large and heavier chime pipe organ with a total of 9765 pipes. When the weather is good, you can climb the clock tower and get a great view of the city.Liverpool · 1.7km from downtown

The Metropolitan Cathedral built at the end of the 20th century is a unique religious building, because its appearance is fundamentally different from the traditional Catholic church in the eyes of ordinary people. This is a cathedral with a modern circular building appearance, built with reinforced concrete and Portland stone, decorated with stained glass, and exudes a modern and alternative temperament from the inside out. But maybe it's too special, many people disagree, and the cathedral is also known as "the Irishman's humble cottage". The design of the Metropolitan Cathedral was based on the scheme of Frederick Gibbard, the winner of the 1960 World Class Design Competition. The foundation stone was laid in 1962 and it took five years to complete. The entire church is a conical structure surrounded by 13 chapels. The church music played in the church is also very special. It breaks the tradition and is full of avant-garde and lively rhythm. The pulpit is in the center of the rotunda, and the surrounding seats are close to it, and the pulpit is just below the conical spire. The glass skylight on the spire is also beautifully painted. The sun shines down, it is gorgeous and soft, and it looks particularly holy and beautiful. The Metropolitan Cathedral is very close to Liverpool Cathedral, and tourists who want to experience traditional church culture may wish to go there.Liverpool · 1.6km from downtown

The Walker Art Gallery is located in the urban area of Liverpool. It is a large art gallery in the north of England. It was built in 1876 and named after Sir Walker who invested in the construction of the exhibition hall. It houses a large number of outstanding art treasures of the 14th century, and the number of paintings is even more comprehensive. The larger scale of the United Kingdom shows the artistic charm of the Victorian era. Worth seeing are the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite school, which was loyal to the natural classicism and opposed to the mechanical and academic style of the post-Raphaelite era. The characters in the paintings of the former school have vivid expressions, and the colors are bright and clear. The themes are traditional and classical, and most of the materials come from history or literature. For example, Millais' "Rowlands and Isabella" in 1849 is a typical pre-Raphaelite work, depicting the works of the poet Keats. Isabella, a rich lady, falls in love with Rowlands, but she The elder brother's objection, so in the picture, many people at the table showed contempt in various gestures, while Rowlands presented the oranges to Isabella with a focused and sincere expression.Liverpool · 811m from downtown

His works are interesting and vivid, even for laymen of modern art. , I believe you can also find its fun. The third and fourth floors of the museum are special exhibition areas, where there will always be exhibitions of works from time to time, such as the Alice in Wonderland Art Exhibition, Bai Nanhuai's Works Exhibition, Monet's Works Exhibition, etc. The Museum of Modern Art will also put some artworks on display here.Liverpool · 978m from downtown

Liverpool has become the southwest fortress of the United Kingdom because of its geographical location by the sea, so everything about the city will always have an inseparable relationship with the sea. The Merseyside Maritime Museum is a window through which you can see the stories between Liverpool and the sea, from the past to the present, and even about its future. The museum opened in 1980 and underwent an expansion in 1986. The British Museum is one of the largest and most renowned museums in the world. The British Museum houses over 8 million cultural relics and treasures from around the globe, with its vast quantity and diversity of collections being rare among museums worldwide. Rich collection of treasures Due to its vast collection, The British Museum can nearly showcase the entire course of world civilization. Despite spatial limitations, it still displays approx. 50,000 items simultaneously. The main collections date from the medieval period, with particular renown for ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman artifacts, alongside a wealth of precious cultural relics from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. Many cultural treasures from around the world can only be seen in their authentic form here. Ancient Greek-style main building The main building emulates ancient Greek architecture, featuring a grand entrance with a tall colonnade flanked by eight thick and towering Roman-style columns on each side, topped by a pediment roof adorned with reliefs. Entering through the main door leads to the great court, which is connected to over 100 galleries of various sizes surrounding it. Inspired by the Louvre Pyramid, the great court is bright, spacious, and elegantly minimalist. Bright central atrium The great court was originally part of the British Library. After the library moved out, it was transformed into a covered square with a white color scheme. The square's massive semi-transparent roof is composed of many uniquely shaped glass panels, combined with white stone, ensuring excellent lighting even on gloomy days in London. The sculptures displayed in the court are genuine treasures, such as the marble lion and Easter Island statues. Additionally, artists from around the world occasionally perform here, adding a relaxed atmosphere to the solemn museum. At the center of the grand atrium is the reading room, displaying art literature and books open to the public, where travelers can admire the dome and quaint circular bookshelves up close. The entrance of the reading room is marked with the names of notable figures to commemorate their time spent reading here. Cafés and restaurants are located on both sides and above the grand atrium, offering dining options with a view overlooking the entire space. Along the outer edge of the reading room lies the museum shop, where visitors can purchase souvenirs after their tour. Three iconic treasures The Rosetta Stone: Originally from Egypt, this stone bears three different script versions of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh's decree. Through comparing these scripts, archaeologists gradually unlocked the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian civilization. However, the Rosetta Stone displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is a replica. Admonitions scroll: The scroll consists of 12 paintings in total, with The British Museum housing 9 Tang dynasty replica versions. The Admonitions scroll ranks 39th in BBC's "A History of the World in 100 Objects," highlighting its immense cultural and historical value. Throughout history, the scroll has been collected by numerous emperors and high-ranking officials. The Elgin Marbles: These are sculptural fragments from the Parthenon, with a history of over 2,500 years. They have been housed in the museum for over 200 years since the British royal family purchased them at great expense. Specialty exhibition halls Asian pavilions: Halls 33 and 95. Hall 33 features artifacts from China, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, including collections from countries like India. Hall 33B is dedicated to Chinese jade artifacts, while Hall 95 showcases Chinese ceramics. The British Museum is one of the museums with the largest collections of lost Chinese artifacts, housing over 25,000 pieces, with approx. 2,000 on long-term display. The exhibition is meticulously designed, organizing Shang and Zhou dynasty bronzes along a chronological sequence, displaying artifacts from the Shang and Zhou, Qin and Han, to the Republican era. The major kilns of porcelain are divided into different curated sections by Ru, Ge, Jun, Ding, and Guan styles, presented professionally and systematically. Recommended artifacts to admire include large Tang tri-color ceramics, the Song Cizhou kiln "circus pillow," the Yuan blue-and-white fish and algae pattern large plate, Ming Xuande cloisonné, and Dunhuang mural Buddha statues. Ancient Egypt exhibition hall: halls 4, 61-66. One of the popular spots in the museum. The exhibits include mummies. The ancient Egypt hall is also one of the most visited exhibition halls, and almost all visitors to The British Museum make it a must-see. Ancient Greek and Roman galleries: rooms 11-23, 69-73, 77, 78, 82-85. The entire Parthenon is truly awe-inspiring, along with numerous ancient Greek marble sculptures and exquisite artifacts like vases. Don't miss the Portland Vase in room 70. Some exhibits are not suitable for long-term display and are only open during specific periods each year (including the mentioned Admonitions scroll). This church looks ordinary from the outside, but you will be amazed once you enter. It feels very beautiful as soon as you enter. It is super big inside. It is recommended to come here on Sundays. There will be a choir every Sunday. You can pray with the locals and feel the atmosphere.

#Liverpool Wall of Fame - In 2001, Liverpool Airport was renamed Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and the new logo was changed to a cartoon image of John Lennon, with a line from the Beatles' "Imagine" written on it - Above us is the sky. This is the first airport in the UK named after an individual. As time goes by, the Beatles are destined to become a legend and be written into Liverpool's city history.
