Reviews: Baku: Guba Khinalig & Candy Cane Tour with Homemade Lunch

🌄 Baku Candy Cane & Khinaliq Trip A breathtaking journey through Azerbaijan’s unique landscapes. Candy Cane Mountains amaze with red-white patterns, while Khinaliq offers stunning views and cultural charm. Long drive but totally worth it for nature lovers and photographers.

Good day out to escape Baku on a rainy day, the trip was good fun allowing a glimpse of the countryside and the mountain. Top marks for the drive in an 1988 Russian truck along what looked like a perilous mountain road in the last stretch, I did not account for the heavy snow at the top though, bring your best winter shoes if booking like me in early April!

Worth the price you pay. The views are beautiful, but be prepared to spend about 80% of the time in the car. Each photo stop is around 10 minutes. The homemade lunch in Khinaliq tastes decent and is truly home-cooked. The guide communicated well, and if your hotel is on their pickup list, they will come to pick you up directly. We didn’t actually visit Besh Barmag as mentioned in the description—we only passed by and saw it from a distance. But overall, the trip is worth it and I would recommend it. If you have free time in Baku and don’t know where to go, this tour is a good choice.
Reviews: Guba Khinalug & Candy Cane Mountains tour (by Old City Tours)

A long day trip (as expected). The scenery was varied and interesting. We travelled along the dry Caspian coastline to the Five Finger Mountain. Our next stop was the Candy Cane Mountains, a structure of layers of red and light grey mudstone. We then started to climb up into the mountains through wooded areas. As we increased in elevation the trees fell away to very steep open grassed hills and mountains. Most of this time we followed a river, sometimes driving through very steep walled valleys, only about 30 metres wide. We stopped a few times to take in the stunning scenery. We arrived at Khinalug, a quaint little village punched on the side of a mountain. We were welcomed into a local house and shared a delightful local lunch. Afterward we walked through the village before starting our trip back to Baku. Our guide, Servi, was very personable, helpful and was able to answer most of our questions. She provided an interesting commentary throughout the trip, while pointing out places of interest and facts about Baku and our trip.
