Reviews: Bruges and Ghent - Belgium's Fairytale Cities - from Brussels

Certainly! Here’s a one-paragraph review: I recently joined a guided tour of Bruges and Ghent and had a great experience. The tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging, sharing fascinating insights into the history, architecture, and culture of both cities. Highlights included visits to the Markt and canals in Bruges and to Gravensteen Castle and St. Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, with plenty of interesting stories and recommendations for local food along the way. The tour was well-paced and made exploring both cities easy and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get the most out of their visit to Bruges and Ghent.

This trip was fantastic! The scenery was beautiful, exceeding my expectations. The service from the cruise company, SST Travel, was also very professional. They contacted me immediately after I purchased the tickets, provided luxury car pick-up and drop-off, and arranged the cruise activities very professionally. The meals were also delicious, and every member of the team was very friendly. I'm happy to give them 5 stars and give them a thumbs up. I will definitely recommend them to my friends next time they come.
Reviews: Ninh Binh Day Trip: Bai Dinh-Trang An-Mua Cave, Buffet, Boat, Bus

We went on this trip as a family of 4, with 2 teens who all really enjoyed themselves. The limousine bus (basically a standard bus with more legroom and nicer seats - worth the selection) picked us up from the hotel in the Old Town. The guide, Kian, was very helpful + knowledgeable, and spoke good English. The bamboo shop (a high pressured sales environment) - the first stop - would be worth missing if it were optional. Expensive for what they sell, and a tip would be to try to exit the (long) Ikea style meandering shop exit asap. You then visit the huge pagoda complex, built around 20 years ago, but which looks a lot older. It was pretty good, with lots of photo ops. Make sure you take plenty of water as there are lots of steps to navigate. The"5* buffet lunch" afterwards certainly isn't that, as the range is quite similar, and much of which should be hot was cold (eg fries), but its ok and a bit better than standard tour fayre. The stars of the day, and the reason for the 5* trip rating, are the Trang An river trip, and the climb up Dragon Mountain. You get rowed around the river complex (3 or 4 to a boat) for around an hour and a half, through caves and amongst gorgeous limestone scenery. You could easily imagine yourself on many Hollywood movie sets, or even playing a live role in the "Uncharted" video games as the forested stone outcrops soar vertically upwards from the water. The only downside are the number of other boats, which does give it a bit of a feel of a ride from a Disney theme park. If you could go at a quiet time (if such a thing exists) it would be absolutely magical. The Dragon mountain gives you a chance to get to the summit of one of the peaks you've seen from the boat. It was super physical and we were drenched in sweat by the time we got to the top of the 500 steps. And that's from a regular Park 5k runner and a fit 15 yr old footballer! The very top (with the concrete dragon) has some sharp rocks and is quite tricky to both get up to and descend, so you might want to avoid that little bit as it adds little to the experience. The general views are amazing, and its worth the hard work getting to the top. You will certainly have earned an ice cream + ice cold can of fanta from the stall when you get back to the bottom. We only had 10 minutes by the time we got to the bottom, so only 2 of the group saw the Mua cave (the other two preferred ice creams!), and said it wasnt anything spectacular. There are lots of travel providers offering similar trips, but we thought Cozy Travel did a good job, and for a fair price. Get on that Lazy River...

Overall, it was a very comfortable experience. There were nine tourists on the day I went. The bus had one seat on each side of the aisle, spacious and comfortable. I didn't have to sit right next to other tourists, which was very relaxing. There were USB charging ports by the windows. My hotel wasn't in the pick-up area, so I went to wait outside the hotel designated by the travel agency in the morning. The bus arrived a little later than scheduled, but the travel agency contacted the hotel and had their staff invite me to wait in the lobby. It was a very thoughtful arrangement. The scenery of Ninh Binh's various attractions goes without saying. I personally felt that cycling through Ninh Binh's scenery was an excellent experience and definitely worth trying. Lunch was at a guesthouse (photo 1), which was very clean, and I felt comfortable using the bathroom. The Vietnamese home-style food was quite satisfying. After lunch, we visited the home of a 70-year-old villager. We drank tea in his ancestral home, tasted his homemade rice wine, and tried a Vietnamese hookah smoked from a bamboo tube – quite interesting.
