[Small Group of 9] Kyoto Kifune Shrine + Arashiyama + Sanzenin Temple Day Trip

▲ Kifune Shrine is an ancient shrine located in a quaint village nestled in the mountains north of Kyoto. It is the head shrine of Kifune Shrines and the birthplace of ema (votive plaques). The stone steps leading to the main shrine are lined with long red lanterns, a popular photo spot. The "Yūsha" in the name refers to "union" or "connection," and the Yūsha shrine within Kifune Shrine is one of Kyoto's famous shrines dedicated to the goddess of love and destiny, Iwanagahime-no-Mikoto. The best time to visit Kifune is August and autumn. Because of its mountainous terrain and dense forests, even in August, the area doesn't experience the summer heat, and in autumn, the maple leaves display vibrant colors. Therefore, the area around Kifune Shrine is also one of Kyoto's most famous spots for autumn foliage.

▲ The Arashiyama area comprises Arashiyama and Sagano. This region boasts not only rich cultural attractions but also stunning natural scenery that changes with the seasons and a vintage train. It's home to numerous ancient temples and shrines, with Tenryu-ji Temple being a World Heritage Site. The famous bamboo grove path runs between Nonomiya Shrine and Ōkochi Sanso. (It's impossible to visit all the recommended attractions; you can choose to explore at your own pace. Please manage your time well and be punctual for the meeting.)

▲ If you wish to experience the Sagano Scenic Railway, you can purchase tickets separately at your own expense. The following are recommended schedules: Outbound: Sagano (15:02) - Kameoka Station (15:25), travel time approximately 20 minutes. Return: Kameoka Station (15:30) - Sagano (15:56), travel time approximately 20 minutes. Please note: The train operates on a round-trip route using the same train; you do not need to leave the station to change trains for the return trip. The Arashiyama scenic area is quite large, and time is limited. If you take the Sagano Scenic Railway, you may not have enough time to visit other attractions. Please be mindful of the time constraints. If you choose to experience the Sagano Scenic Railway, please inform the driver in advance. Please manage your time for visiting other attractions in the Arashiyama area independently.

▲ Sanzen-in Temple, located in Ohara, Kyoto's Rakuhoku region, is one of the five temples of the Tendai school, renowned as a premier shrine in Rakuhoku and closely associated with Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Within its expansive grounds, ancient trees reach for the sky, moss carpets the grounds, and streams murmur. The temple complex features guest halls and main halls, as well as two pond-style gardens designed by Kanemori Sōwa—Yūsei-en and Jūhei-en—offering excellent views of Sanzen-in's scenery throughout the four seasons. Cherry blossoms in April, azaleas in May, hydrangeas in July, and vibrant autumn foliage make for a year-round feast for the eyes.
