▲ Blue Moon Valley is located on the eastern foothills of Yulong Snow Mountain. It gets its name from the lake water that is as blue as the moon and is often called "Little Jiuzhai". The valley is home to four major lakes in sequence: Yuye Lake, Jingtan Lake, Lanyue Lake and Tingtao Lake. The lake water is formed by the accumulation of meltwater from glaciers over thousands of years, and is so clear that you can see the bottom. On sunny days, the lake water displays a dreamy Tiffany blue, complementing the snow-capped mountains, making it one of the more photogenic spots at Yulong Snow Mountain. Blue Moon Valley was formed after the ancient ice and snow of the Lijiang Yulong Snow Mountain glacier melted and flowed down the cliffs, continuously converging into mountain streams and brooks, eventually forming a crystal-clear and exceptionally refreshing river in the deep valley upstream.

First, there is the lawn beneath your feet, gently undulating and stretching for kilometers. In spring and summer, it is a sea of green grass with blooming wildflowers; in fall, it turns golden, and in winter, it becomes a silver world, changing colors with the seasons. Next is the forest at the edge of the meadow, forming a natural barrier between the snow-capped mountains and the grassland. In sight, it appears deep and solemn, like a silent shepherd watching over this meadow. Finally, there is Yulong Snow Mountain, towering into the clouds and exhaling mist, its colossal presence seeming to gaze down from above, embracing the meadow like a stern yet loving parent.

▲ The second is discovery Spruce meadow is a sacred place of the Naxi people, leading to their legendary paradise "the third kingdom of Yulong" as described in Dongba scriptures. In this kingdom, "there are endless fine silks and satins to wear, inexhaustible fresh fruits and delicacies to eat, boundless fine wines and sweet milk to drink, and limitless gold and silver to use. Crimson-striped tigers serve as steeds, silver-horned spotted deer till the fields, broad-eared foxes act as hunting hounds, and colorful-tailed pheasants herald the dawn." In the past, this enchanting "third kingdom of Yulong" attracted countless Naxi youth. When their love faced obstacles in the mortal world, they would come to spruce meadow to die together for love. They believed spruce meadow was the ideal gateway to "the third kingdom of Yulong," where their sacrifice would free them from worldly troubles and ascend them to this utopia of love. Around Spruce Meadow, you will see young women dressed in vibrant ethnic costumes, singing and dancing gracefully on the meadows and among the forests, adding charm to the journey through the snowy meadows: those wearing the "star-and-moon" attire on their backs are Naxi young women, while those wearing colorful-threaded pot-shaped hats are Yi young women.

▲ Legend has it that Spruce Meadow is where the first pair of Naxi lovers committed suicide for love. According to the legend, the pioneers of love suicide among the Naxi people were Kaimei and Yulepai. Their honey-sweet love life was torn apart by the feudal marriage system of polygamy. Yearning for a free love life, they went together to Spruce Meadow to die for love. Therefore, during the Torch Festival in June, youth from villages near Yulong Mountain make paper figures symbolizing Kaimei and Yulepai and come to Spruce Meadow to commemorate these pioneers of love suicide. Driving 25 km north from Snow Mountain Park, you enter a vast alpine meadow, which is Gan Haizi. Gan Haizi is a natural pasture with gentle undulating terrain, where scattered dwarf pine trees dot the expansive meadow.
