During summer, the vibrant green scenery and the red Ena Kyo Bridge create a stunning view. In autumn, maple trees and foliage adorn the lakeside. ▲ 13:30 Magome Magome-juku, awarded one star in the Michelin Green Guide, earned its name ("Horse Basket Post Town") because the steep roads made it difficult for horses to pass, forcing travelers to leave their horses at the post station. This historic town was a vital stop on the trade route between ancient Kyoto and Tokyo. The central section of this route, known as the Kiso Road, stretches along the Kiso River from Niekawa-juku to Magome-juku and features 11 inns that served as resting stations for travelers and their horses. Magome-juku, located at the southernmost end of the Kiso Road, once thrived as a bustling post town. The old streets along the ancient highway preserve their original Edo-period architecture, offering a charming and picturesque scene. Lined with shops, the historic road in Magome-juku is perfect for a leisurely lunch.
