Attraction Introduction
The Temple of Heaven was the site where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. Located east of Zhengyang Gate, the northern part of the temple complex is circular while the southern part is square, symbolizing the ancient belief that "heaven is round and earth is square." The entire complex is enclosed by two walls, dividing it into the Inner Altar and Outer Altar sections covering a total area of 273 hectares, with the main structures concentrated in the Inner Altar.

The Temple of Heaven in Beijing was completed in the 18th year of the Yongle reign during the Ming Dynasty (1420). It underwent expansions and renovations during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, resulting in magnificent architecture and a solemn, majestic environment. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the state invested significant funds in the protection and restoration of the temple's cultural relics and historic sites. Having weathered centuries of change, the Temple of Heaven, with its profound cultural significance and grand architectural style, stands as a testament to the ancient civilization of the East.
