We took the tour from Te Anau. We stopped at many places on the way to Milford Sound, allowing us to take photos. You can buy lunch on the Milford Sound cruise, or bring your own. We were grateful for the free coffee, tea, and water. We were able to see many incredibly high cliffs and really get a feel for the sheer scale of the place.★

The trip was well-organised, starting and finishing on time. Our bus driver/tour guide, Russel, demonstrated his superb expertise by blending great driving and comprehensive local knowledge, with subtle humour and wit. The Milford Sound cruise and buffet lunch continued along this vein, making the trip a wonderful experience. While the overall coach conditions were satisfactory, more seat cushioning would improve comfort levels, given the extended times of the return trip. Well Done.★

Milford Sound is absolutely stunning! The scenery is breathtaking, the boat tour is fantastic, and the unique landscape not found in China is truly amazing. The entire trip, including check-in, was incredibly smooth!★

Our family had a great day with Jonathan. His knowledge of the local area, history & Māori stories were just as good as the cruise in Milford. It is a long and treacherous drive in winter- and the decision to take a tour rather than drive ourselves was well worth it. We would never have pulled over where Jonathon did and would have missed all the amazing photos, and multiple Keas without his expertise! He (and all the other passengers) were amazing with our 5yo who said “the tour captain” was the best thing about the day- even better than the boat!
All the stops were well thought out, the scones were the envy of everyone else during the cruise around Milford. Leaving from Te Anu meant an earlier cruise that misses the large bus groups so plenty of seats and room to see in & out as the dolphins & seals popped up beside the boat. Thank you to Jonathan & all at Fiordland Tours!★

Reviews: Doubtful Sound Wilderness Day Cruise from Manapouri

Absolutely fantastic. Boat from Manapouri to the other side of Manapoori Lake was about 45 min, then scenic drive for another 45 mins to set off for a great boat ride along Doubtful Sound until the very beginning of Tasman Sea (ca. 2,5h return). The views were spectacular, also because we were lucky with weather as it was sunshine, not usual in this place which sees 240 rainy days a year and annaul rain fall of about 6-8 metres.
One of the highlights of the trip was a few minutes pf total silence with engines turned off and all visitors asked to be quiet. That was a moment to remember!
Guides and all staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the bus driver who shared lots pf interesting stories of the area and water power plant.
Altogether the trip it took almost 7h, as we set off at 10.30 am and returned to Manapouri at 5.10 pm. Bring your own food or you can buy sandwiches, snacks and soft drinks at the bar on the boat.
We did also Milford Sound cruise which was great too, if you like this type of activity and have time, dont hesitate to book both. If I had to choose one, I would choose Doubtful Sound.
