The main routes are as follows:
Route 2A – Complete Classic Route: This lets you explore a large part of the complex, including the most iconic viewpoint from where you get a spectacular panoramic view of Machu Picchu. It's the most popular route. Physical effort: moderate to high.
Route 2B – Lower Terrace: An alternative to the previous one, it includes the iconic viewpoint and the agricultural terraces. It offers an equally complete visual experience, but from a different perspective. Physical effort: moderate to high.
Route 1A – Machu Picchu Mountain: This route takes you to the top of Machu Picchu Mountain on a 3.8 km hike (round trip), lasting two hours. From the top, you'll get to enjoy breathtaking views of the surroundings. Physical effort: high.
Route 1B – Upper Terrace: Explore the upper part of the complex and visit the Guardian's House. This route is shorter (about an hour), but you can stay in the area for up to four hours. Physical effort: moderate.
