We were only a small group of four, probably because the weather forecast wasn't good. Our friendly guide, Federico, took us by minibus to the Rifugio Sapienza and took us on a leisurely hike to about 2,000 meters. He had a lot of interesting things to say about Etna and the history of its eruptions, and he patiently answered our questions. The wind was too strong for the summit option that day. The rain waited until we got back to the car. Afterward, we visited a winery with a small tasting and shopping opportunity, and finally, we visited a lava cave. Overall, a very successful day trip.★
