Asahiyama Zoo is located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, and is a highly popular zoo in Japan. In the 1990s, it was on the verge of closure due to a sharp decline in visitors. However, with the concept of "behavioral exhibits," it regained popularity: the enclosures are designed according to the animals' natural instincts, allowing them to exhibit instinctive behaviors in a near-natural state. Visitors can observe them up close and unobstructed. The zoo summarizes this philosophy as "conveying life." The themed exhibition halls in the park each have their highlights. The seal pavilion features a large vertical cylindrical tank at its center, where spotted seals swim up and down - circling the tank allows full viewing, and they occasionally press against the glass to gaze at travelers. In the polar bear pavilion, polar bears tumble and dive in a massive pool, creating an impactful sight through underwater glass panels. The penguin pavilion's underwater tunnel is a signature attraction, where visitors can look up to see penguins gliding overhead like birds. At the orangutan pavilion, orangutans perform "skywalk" on ropes between towers over ten meters high, representing a classic animal behavior display. Every snowy winter, penguins walk in groups along outdoor snow paths, waddling past visitors—a signature program that has continued for years. The zoo also features feeding sessions with on-site guides, during which the animals are particularly active. After entering, check the daily schedule and allow ample time to explore at leisure.Asahikawa · 9.2km from downtown

We also walked till closing time for this attraction, being our first full day in Hokkaido. The seals, penguins and polar bear were so close to us till we could see them very upclose. Not forgetting the hippo enclosure which was very unique with de waters and they seem to be enjoying swimming inside. The children’s playground was a pleasant surprise for the kids to take a break from walking. Too bad we missed the petting and feeding area.

It looks like a crowded ski resort, but it doesn't feel crowded at all when skiing. It is quite suitable for beginners and advanced practice. There is a round-trip bus to the ski resort (800 yen per trip), which is quite convenient, but you need to pay attention to the time. There are many types of cable cars. For the box cable car, you need to put the snowboard outside the box. If you bring it into the box, you need to take a protective cover to prevent scratches on the cable car. Except for the box cable car, you need to wear skis to take the cable car up the mountain. There is an observation house at the top of the mountain. The ski resort closes early, so you need to pay attention to the time. There is no night skiing.

Niyama is a well-known sake brand in Japan. It has a long history. The pollution-free snowy mountain water flows through Xuchuan. During this period, with heavy minerals, good terrain and moderate climate, it creates a good wine-making environment. Therefore, the sake brewed by Niyama Winery is well-known far and near. A Snowman more than two meters high in front of the building attracted people's attention.

This is a dramatic garden that changes like magic with the seasons. This is a flowering period unique to the North, with colorful flowers. The garden is grown from plants grown in the climate of Hokkaido. It is regarded as a Hokkaido garden. It is a garden designed mainly with perennials that bloom all year round. The garden shop selling flower seedlings and gifts is also popular among guests. From the garden, you can climb the mountain, and from the slope of the mountain, you can see the wilderness-like garden landscape.

Kamii Kotan is located in the valley where the Kamikawa Basin and the Ishikari River enter the Ishikari Plain. The banks of the Ishikari River in this area are lined with strange rocks and stretch for about 10 kilometers. It is a famous scenic spot in Asahikawa. Nearby are the Kamai Kotan Caves, Kamai Kotan Tunnel Dwellings, and the Former Kamai Kotan Station Building, which were created by the rapids of the Ishikari River. There are also spots for SL locomotives. Kamii Kotan is also a famous autumn leaf viewing spot in Asahikawa. Every autumn, the mountains and valleys are dyed red by the red leaves, which is a stunning sight.
