[Xisha Mingzhu Lake Park is located at the southwestern end of Chongming Island, the world's largest alluvial sand island at a river mouth and China's third largest island. Comprising Mingzhu Lake and Xisha Wetland, it covers a total area of 7.8 square kilometers (11,900 acres). The area was originally a main channel of the southern branch of the Yangtze River and part of the route taken by Ming Dynasty navigator Zheng He during his voyages. As a stopover on the International Migratory Bird Route No. 5, the park features unique and beautiful wetland, lake, and forest landscapes, along with distinctive water and land sports and leisure tourism activities, making it a renowned national eco-tourism demonstration area.
