After purchasing, remember to exchange it for a physical card at the designated location. I exchanged mine at Salzburg Central Station, in the tourist information area. Look for the green "i" sign (not the QBB sign). It's located to the left of the QBB service area facing the stairs; it's in an inconspicuous spot. After exchanging, remember to write the date on the card to activate it. The staff will ask where you're from and provide you with tourist information in appropriate text.

Fuss free purchasing here. However, I had to go to the tourist information centre to exchange to a physical card. Perhaps it’s easier to just purchase the physical card from your hotel reception.
