The Hanging Temple offers little to see without climbing it, and climbing it is tiring. There are many restaurants near the Yungang Grottoes, so avoid eating at the Hanging Temple. I don't recommend listening to guided tours of the grottoes; I felt I knew more than I did myself, and they didn't get to the point. The all-encompassing sculptural art of the grottoes is still very impressive.
The driver was very nice and friendly. There was no smell of smoke in the car. The ride was smooth.★

We booked this tour and couldn't be happier. We absolutely loved everything, from the service to the sights themselves. Datong is wonderful, and its architecture is breathtaking.

The driver was very helpful in meeting our every need, generous with advice, friendly, and courteous. He handled the difficulties that arose due to the very adverse weather conditions very well. He had a translator, so we didn't have any particular communication difficulties. The only downside: his driving was a bit reckless.★
