We had an amazing time with Braulio! 10/10 recommend if you're a looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Braulio was super friendly, knowledgable, kind and accommodating. We explored parts of the jungle that we would never have seen otherwise—and spotted some cool critters and flora. He tailored the experience for us, going out of his way (literally) to find the animals he knew we wanted to spot. For context, my partner is a huge fan of amphibians...especially frogs (so much so that he dubbed our trip #FrogWatch2024). He had been scouring the area for some nocturnal species. We decided last minute to book a tour after discovering that you can only enter the wildlife refuge after dark with a registered guide. Braulio picked us up from our lodge and drove us to Manzanillo, where we entered refuge around twilight. In almost no time, it was pretty dark. We hiked our way through the jungle with our headlamps for a good 2-3 hours. It didn't seem nearly that long. Along the way, Braulio told us about the town, the refuge, the trees, the plants, the, the animals, the people. He very patiently answered 1,000 questions from his enthusiastic client. Despite the preponderance of spiders and a few snakes, I felt quite safe with our guide...I appreciated that he also went ahead to check a new route or path before having us follow. We stopped in a clearing and ate fresh mango he brought, then hiked toward the rising sound of crashing waves. We paused at a lookout point where we watched the ocean thrash in the light of an almost-full moon. While we didn't spot ALL the frogs (it's been a dry season, Braulio told us), the experience alone was well worth it. And a deal, if you ask me! We had such a great time that we booked the BriBri chocolate tour for the very next day—another unique and well-worth-it adventure. I'm so glad we found Braulio on this trip. It was a privilege to learn about the land and the culture of this beautiful country from someone so deeply connected to it.
Reviews: Chocolate Tour in Bribri Indigenous Area & Cahuita National Park

We had a wonderful day with our guide Juan, who drove us from Puerto Limon down to see the indigenous Bri Bri people in southern Costa Rica. He took us to one of their settlements where we were shown many local plants and how they were used for food, medicine, and clothing. The highlight of this part of the tour was making chocolate. We watched and helped! our Bri Bri hosts roast the cacao pods over an open flame, crushing the hot pods with rocks using a primitive mortar and pestle and then grinding the small chunks into pure cacao chocolate which we enjoyed mixed with roasted banana. Yum! This part of the tour was more than enough to make a fun day, but this was only the first part. We then started to head to Cahuita National Park, but not before stopping to hike down to a nice waterfall and enjoy the cool water (bring a swim suit!) en route to Cahuita. We hiked along the trails at Cahuita National Park and enjoyed the beach and scenery before beginning our trek back to Puerto Limon. However, the day wasn't over yet as we stopped for a nice lunch with our guide Juan in Cahuita, enjoying a traditional lunch with beverages before heading back to Puerto Limon. Juan could not have been a better guide, teaching us new words in both Spanish and the native Bri Bri language, pointing out wildlife and other things we might have missed, and all around ensuring that we had the best day possible. We highly recommend the tour and can't say enough about our guide for the day, Juan. Thank you!

Incredible! Our guide was so dedicated and kind. You absolutely must hire a guide. After just 200 meters, we had already seen about ten animals that we would never have seen without him! I recommend it 100%! ✨

We recently took a vacation to Costa Rica. One of the adventures was an amazing tour from Syl Travel. Our tour guide named “Risheylin” was super sweet, and very knowledgeable about her country. The tour took us through the jungle, where we tried local Caco (The plant where chocolate comes from), and other local eats and drinks. Part of the tour also included a river cruise, a forest adventure, and more. Risheylin was so upbeat it made our adventure even more enjoyable. We highly recommend Syl Travel and ask for Risheylin.
