I purchased my EasyCard in Taiwan through Trip.com, and it was super convenient. The card design was also different from the standard ones you get at 7-Eleven or metro stations, which made it feel more special. Another big plus is that buying online doesn’t require a deposit, so there’s no need to worry about returning the card at the end of the trip.

I took the Shinkansen from Taipei to Tainan. Since my flights were Tokyo to Taipei and Kaohsiung to Tokyo, I booked a one-way ticket. You can make reservations on the Taiwan Shinkansen website, but you must print your ticket at the ticket counter. The Taiwan Shinkansen operates frequently, so unless it's a particularly busy season, I think it's fine to choose your flight when you pick up your ticket at the ticket counter. Taipei Station is just as complicated as Tokyo Station, and the signs seem less strict. Rather than rushing to decide on a flight, I think it's best to just board the last one when you arrive. It's best to decide whether or not to make a reservation depending on your travel period and schedule. You'll need to go to a staffed ticket counter, present your passport, and then pick up your ticket.

Our driver, AR-FA, was friendly and a skilled driver. He drove smoothly even on the winding road up Alishan. He accompanied us throughout the trip, helping us buy train tickets, exchange tickets for snacks, and taking lots of photos. 👍🏻 It felt like traveling with friends. The itinerary was also well-organized, allowing us to board the bus directly from our hotel near Taichung Station, which was very convenient. We didn't spend enough time in Fenchihu Old Street; after lunch, we didn't have time to go shopping. This was probably because it was a holiday and there were more people. Also, some sections of the road were narrow and sloped. Alishan is beautiful, and the forests are unique and beautiful. It's worth a visit.


