Temppeliaukio Church

7.6
4.6/5
437 reviews
Temppeliaukio Church, also known as Temppeliaukio Church, is located in the Temppeliaukio Square in the center of Helsinki. Designed by the architect brothers Suomalainen, it is one of the few churches in the world built into solid rock and a must-see attraction in Helsinki. Historical background Temppeliaukio Church was designed by the Suomalainen brothers and completed in 1969. As early as the 1930s, a church design competition was held here but was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. After the war, the brothers' proposal won the public competition, ultimately turning the blueprint into this rock-embedded building. The beauty of architecture When you stand outside the church, what catches your eye is a massive rock, with no visible spire or bell tower typical of most churches. You might not even notice the church's presence, as only a light blue copper dome over 20 m in diameter is exposed atop the rock. This is because the church was built inside a giant rock—the rock was hollowed out, and a glass ceiling was constructed above to allow natural light, while the church's outer walls are the rock itself. The church entrance is designed as a tunnel, with its inner walls still made of the original rock. The entire church resembles a landed UFO, creating a very peculiar sight. The roof features a dome design supported by a hundred radial beams, with transparent glass inlays that allow natural light to illuminate the space, making it hard to tell you're inside a rock. The church can accommodate hundreds of people. It holds services on Sundays and is also a popular venue for local weddings, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Additionally, thanks to the echo effect of the rock walls, the church boasts excellent acoustics, making it a frequent choice for concerts.Finland · Helsinki

Santa Claus Village is located 8 km north of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. Every year, a steady stream of visitors flocks from all over the world to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. Santa Claus Village is a group of wooden buildings, including a pointed main gate, restaurants, flower gardens, Santa's office, residence, post office, gift shops, and a reindeer park. The tents and antlers used by the Laplanders for their stay are also quite interesting souvenirs. Here you can also get a certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle. The Santa Claus post office offers various fairy-tale stamps, greeting cards and gifts. All letters sent from here will bear a special postmark from the Arctic Santa Claus post office. Here you can also book a letter signed by Santa Claus at the post office, which will be sent to your friends and family during Christmas, bringing them a delightful surprise. By the woods stands a reindeer park enclosed with wooden fences, home to many beautiful reindeer. In summer, they lounge lazily on the grass to rest; come winter, especially during Christmas, they work hard for Santa and travelers, pulling sleighs across the snow at full speed. This lets travelers enjoy the thrill of snowflakes brushing their faces and experience the joy and warmth of Christmas, turning scenes from holiday cards into reality.Finland · Rovaniemi

Suomenlinna, located on the inner side of the Helsinki Bay, was a former military fortress and was included in the World Heritage List by the local authorities UNESCO in 1991. In the early 18th century, Finland was still under the rule of the Swedes. The Swedes decided to build forts on six islands off the coast of Helsinki. Construction of Suomenlinna began in 1748 under the command of Swedish commander Alan Swader, initially named Sveaborg. In 1808, the Russian army surrounded it and took over the island directly. Until 1918, it was renamed Suomenlinna, and until now, it is the place where Finnish troops are stationed.Finland · Helsinki

The Helsinki Cathedral, located in front of the Parliament Square, is the most famous building in Helsinki. The green vault is very eye-catching. No matter which corner of the city, you can see this extraordinary white and green roof building, so it is also known as the Helsinki Cathedral. "Whitechapel". Historical background The church was designed by the German architect CLEngel. The location is more than 80 meters above the sea level. You can see it at a glance from the sea. The cathedral is a famous building in Helsinki and has a special place in the hearts of Finns. Therefore, Finnish couples want to hold their wedding here, and even need to make an appointment a year and a half in advance. Architectural beauty The magnificent building has many exquisite murals and sculptures. In winter, heavy snow covered the square in front of the church, the warm lights came on, and the whole church was holy. Whenever the church bell rings, the whole square is silent, and many tourists quietly feel this precious moment of peace of mind that only religion can bring. The graduation ceremony of the seminary of the University of Helsinki, one of the better universities in Northern Europe, is also chosen here every year. Organ recitals and concerts are held here every Sunday evening.Finland · Helsinki

Senate Square is located in the heart of Helsinki's old town, where the surrounding blocks still retain the city's early overall layout. Most of the neoclassical buildings surrounding the square were designed by German architect Carl Ludvig Engel. On the high terrace to the north stands Helsinki Cathedral with its white walls and dark green domes. The main building of the University of Helsinki is on the west side, and the Government Palace on the east side was built in 1822 and once served as the office of the Senate of Finland, from which the square derives its name. The Sederholm House in the southeast corner has stood in this neighborhood for two and a half centuries. In the center of the square stands a bronze statue of Alexander II, completed in 1894, with figures symbolizing law, culture, and the peasantry surrounding the base. Standing on the broad steps in front of the cathedral to overlook the entire stone-paved square is a favorite photo spot for visitors.Finland · Helsinki

Icebreaker Sampo check-in

Icebreaker Sampo check-in

Icebreaker Sampo check-in is an icebreaker from Finland built in the 1960s. It spent nearly 30 years clearing paths for merchant ships in the northern Gulf of Bothnia, was purchased by the city of Kemi in 1987, and has been used for tourism since the following year. Today, it is a core experience of winter tourism in Kemi. During the frozen winter season, this old ship sets sail again: it does not ram the ice with its bow; instead, it rides its reinforced bow onto the ice and uses its own weight to slowly crack ice around 1 m thick. Standing on the deck, you can feel the muffled sound of ice cracking beneath the ship through your feet, and the ship vibrates slightly. This moment of experiencing steel crushing ice up close is something ordinary cruise ships cannot offer. During the voyage, you can follow a guide from the engine room to the bridge to learn about the power and operation of this old ship. Once the icebreaker has cleared an open area in the icy sea, the signature activity begins—donning an orange-red waterproof survival suit and floating on your back in the water between the ice floes. This rubber suit, jokingly called a lobster suit by tourists, keeps you steadily afloat on the freezing sea, surrounded by broken ice, making you feel as if you are in a polar expedition.Finland · Kemi

The Baltic Daughter Statue, also known as the Bronze Statue of Amanda, is located next to the flower market in the open-air market in Helsinki, Finland. It is a bronze statue of a girl. Historical background The statue was first constructed in Paris in 1906, and in 1908 the bronze statue was transported to Helsinki and placed in its current location. Designer Ville Vallgren said that the image of a young girl emerging from the sea symbolizes the birth of Helsinki. Since then, this simple statue has become a symbol of Helsinki. The beauty of the sculpture This bronze maiden is named Amanda, and she is surrounded by four sea lions in a fountain. She rests her cheek in one hand and stares silently at the Gulf of Finland, so people affectionately call her "Daughter of the Baltic Sea". Festival Celebration Every year on May 1st, the Vappu Festival, Finnish high school and college students will hold a grand Vappu carnival next to the Amanda statue. It is a traditional Finnish festival that cannot be missed.Finland · Helsinki

İşte Reels’e uygun, biraz daha uzun ve akıcı bir İngilizce açıklama:⛪ Rock Church (Temppeliaukio Church)One of Helsinki’s most remarkable landmarks, the Rock Church is carved directly into solid granite, blending nature and modern architecture in a truly unique way. The copper dome fills the interior with beautiful natural light, while the exceptional acoustics make it a popular venue for concerts. Peaceful, timeless, and unlike any other church, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor. 🇫🇮✨

The tree in the center of the square gets its decorations changed every year, and the lighting is quite cozy. There's a Santa Claus office in the village where you can take photos, and a post office where you can send postcards with an Arctic Circle postmark. The tree itself isn't particularly special, but the surrounding wooden houses and reindeer sleighs, combined with the lights in the snow, create a nice atmosphere. It's a good place to bring children to experience Christmas culture.

View: Helsinki Cathedral is famous for its white granite exterior and light green dome. Its golden spire and pure white walls can be seen from a distance from the sea. It is an outstanding example of neoclassical style architecture. The church's majestic spire is 62 meters high and is a prominent feature in the city's skyline, providing a different and beautiful view both during the day and at night. Value for money: Helsinki Cathedral is free to the public, making it a very cost-effective tourist attraction. Visitors can enter freely and admire its exquisite murals, sculptures and huge golden pipe organ without paying any fees. Richness of scenery: The interior of the church is spacious and bright, and natural light shines into the interior of the church through the huge windows, creating a solemn and sacred atmosphere. In addition, Senate Square in front of the church is also the best place to appreciate neoclassical architecture and Finnish cultural activities. Education level: Helsinki Cathedral is not only a religious place, but also an important cultural heritage in Finland. It was built in the early 19th century to demonstrate Finland's cultural and religious independence to the Russian rulers of the time. The church is therefore not only a place of religious ceremony but also a symbol of Finnish national pride. Interesting: Because of its unique architectural style and rich cultural background, Helsinki Cathedral has become an important place for tourists to explore the history and culture of Helsinki. The artistic works and regular concerts and cultural activities held in the church provide visitors with a rich cultural experience and interest. In general, Helsinki Cathedral is a beautiful, culturally rich and interesting tourist destination, and it is free and open to the public and has a high cost performance.

I really want to sit on it and experience it. This Ferris wheel is really big. It looks so beautiful at night. If you get up early in the morning, you can still see the sunrise. The way the sun rises complements each other so well. In Helsinki in winter, you can watch the Ferris wheel and quietly drink a cup of coffee and enjoy the night view of the sea. It’s a great enjoyment🥰.

Kemi Icebreaker. Icebreaker trip on the Arctic Circle The Sampu icebreaker, founded in 1960, is no longer used by scientific expedition teams, but is now used by tourists for sightseeing. The experience of an icebreaker moving on the Arctic Circle is truly unforgettable. If you come to Rovaniemi, you must come to Kemi to experience the icebreaker. The whole trip takes about 4 hours. It is best to join in the morning. If you join in the afternoon, it may be darker when you return. You must feel the moment when the ice breaks at the bow.

Linnanmaki Amusement Park, open only in spring and summer, seems to be a special place for Finns. There are long lines at the ticket counter, so it's recommended to buy your tickets in advance. There are some rides that you can ride for free, but they are limited in number and may only be enjoyable for very young children. If you want to enjoy it to the fullest, you should pay for the rides.
